Way down the page we find the true reason for this -> Echoing an argument made by a unanimous Supreme Court, she said, “California continues to lose millions — possibly billions — of dollars. Studies show many independent contractors don’t actually pay their taxes.” <- It's all about taxation. It's always about taxation.

Well, yes. California legislators will proclaim that this is for the workers, but we all know it's really about money. I work in an industry that uses a lot of independent contractors. They like being contractors. They enjoy the freedom of owning their own business. This bill, if passed, will have a ripple effect across the California economy.
