The golden mean is a concept of Aristotle related to what he saw as virtues. He said the true virtue is in the middle of two extremes, like being a coward when compared with being too reckless, the virtue would be in the middle of the two which is, being brave. When it comes to your everyday life try to do something similar when it comes to living an hedonistic way of life when compared with an ascetic one. There is a lot of propaganda in modern society that tells people to adopt violent amounts of narcissism and hedonism and it seems to be sliding more and more into full blown Satanism judging by the dark symbolism present in the media. I personally use the Golden Mean and Stoicism to moderate my way of life.

Contrastingly, you could inverse that when approaching the corporate "mainstream" media propaganda and their Overton window that defines what is acceptable and not acceptable.

That window would tell you that Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul are the far left and far right of what's acceptable, yet they won't discuss 9/11 in depth. You can pretty much discount everything within the window and find far more interesting and valid perspectives on the fringes, even if you don't agree with them at least you'll get a better contextual nuanced understanding than the watered down dogmatic divisive media soundbites.
