WOW. I missed that, it was before my time on that scene. And oh, how I long for the part of that scene I first saw.

That official video is not the best version of the song. The original is better, but it's long, and if you trim the redundant fat you can get a better 4 min version. The many mixes of "Don't Laugh" are great and can be mixed together (see the other comment for a link).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higher_State_of_Consciousness_(song) - I didn't know there were so many remixes but it doesn't surprise me.

I used my own edit of that Wink track for my student film, but before all that I was going to do a series of animated CGI loops (to make a video and to use on tour) for Plastikman Richie Hawtin (who still lives a couple miles from me in a renovated fire station) but Richie had been recently screwed for a music video and wouldn't cough up money for my work (that would pay much of my tuition). He loved my pitch but didn't love paying (but could easily afford to). My friend stole/"designed" his logo (another odd tale entirely). I was big into the Detroit-Toronto rave scenes until I moved to NYC in 1996.

I got into raves in 1998 I think? It was the tail end of the good era.

I suspect it's always the good era.

Yet, I think you're right. That good era was also the golden era for computer animation before the giant corporations had developed a matrix of corporate machines to control most production turning most "artists" into corporate automatons and comfortable slaves of their systems.

You got any other pre-1997 or so awesomeness to link, JC? I love that stuff.

I can recall what I can recall until I can't. Ask away until I run out. I'll start with my faves of course. I almost want a whole selection of more specific 90s genre subs (altindustrial, ambient, chill, funkhouse, progtrance, psytrance, minimal, nuskool, breakbeat, etc) (I made /s/Soundtracks today). Ask everyday if you like, as I'll be happy to come up with something. Most have a story. Be as specific as you like and I'll do my best to either present or learn.

Start with this: /s/Braindance/comments/6lny/gusto_disco_revenge_mole_hole_mix_618/

I could be at the shittiest nastiest filthiest lamest rave ever - and all I had to do to make it better was hum this track to whatever boring tedious generic bland fucking beat that DJ Trainwreck was spinning and my night was just fine. This is the ultimate solution to craptastic beats.

Through tragic shit I lost my thousands of CDs. My epic collection lost forever, there were a few that by chance managed to be brought with me in my CD folder cases, including this remix EP. So yes, I still have this CD.

That is a fine melody, I really like it.

Epic classic. NOT typical of the generic boring stuff that was still enough to get me there. I could reminisce for days and days if pressed.
