I make them up (with the exception of braindance - that was actually the original name for IDM when it was first founded.) and I write a lot of poetry in a belles lettres braindead polyschematic way. That wiki link doesn't work for me but I'll edit the sidebar right now if there's some way I can get my nut around it.

I understand that wordplay is fun for those in the loop but it's alienating and misleading to everyone else. "Braindance" could be about drugs or doctor videos or A.I. robot choreography. Electronic Dance Music is a boring title, but it's clear. Glitch-Hop as a genre may seem like a strange genre name to those who don't know about it, but they can look it up. Braindance, not so much. But the subs are yours to do with as you see fit, for better or worse or both simultaneously.

Sorry if I asked you before, but I don't recall any explanation: Where do you come up with these names?

A) genres understood in my local region
B) mirroring extant subs on Reddit
C) I make them up
D) none of the above
E) a combination of the above
F) other
G) iraffe

For what it's worth, I like most of the creativity in the names. I just don't like the lack of clarity.

I PM asked /u/christianmusicreleases to update that music sidebar list and recently asked them to provide a brief description of what the sub is about. No results yet, but I'm in no hurry. Here are some examples:

They're just wordplay gimmicks. I suppose as Saidit's music sub progenitor I'm giving it an edge that Reddit doesn't and that's having a weeny bit of mystique and edge rather than having just genre titles. It may be more of a pisser to find as a newcomer but it's all listed in the /s/music sidebar anyhows.

If you notice I tend to post the 'topic' videos because I think it all looks neat and organised on the subsaid. Maybe it's a temperate tipple of OCD I'm supping on.

There are 5 tracks from those early 90s days I'd give almost anything to find again.

1) Gurgle Bee - is the name I was told it was on the cassette.

2) Marching Band Drums + techno. Name unknown.

3) Brazillian Drums + techno. Name unknown. (Trendy were the Brazillian drums a few years earlier with David Byrne and Paul Simon.)

4) Carl Cox or Carl Craig cassette mixtape DJ set with a brilliant track that scratched and meshed into The Fifth Dimension's Let The Sunshine In, slightly faster than normal, but a brilliant conclusion to that side of the tape.

5) Little Fluffy Clouds / Wish You Were Here Remix. My ex took my cassette radio recording of this exceptionally rare unfound remix.

I have 2 printings of Future Shock and I've not even read it once.

Through tragic shit I lost my thousands of CDs. My epic collection lost forever, there were a few that by chance managed to be brought with me in my CD folder cases, including this remix EP. So yes, I still have this CD.

That official video is not the best version of the song. The original is better, but it's long, and if you trim the redundant fat you can get a better 4 min version. The many mixes of "Don't Laugh" are great and can be mixed together (see the other comment for a link).

I used my own edit of that Wink track for my student film, but before all that I was going to do a series of animated CGI loops (to make a video and to use on tour) for Plastikman Richie Hawtin (who still lives a couple miles from me in a renovated fire station) but Richie had been recently screwed for a music video and wouldn't cough up money for my work (that would pay much of my tuition). He loved my pitch but didn't love paying (but could easily afford to). My friend stole/"designed" his logo (another odd tale entirely). I was big into the Detroit-Toronto rave scenes until I moved to NYC in 1996.
