We can't be equals. We can't find common ground. Why would we even have that ability? Our instincts were inherited from the members of the pack that reproduced. There is no reproductive advantage from a male seeing the opposite sex the same way they see their own. Passing genes on is easier when you're both physically strong and have the drive to assert that strength over those born to be weaker and more passive. Taking their wishes into account and empathizing with them is a lot less efficient.
