Humor serves as a coping mechanism, not just against depression. It's fundamentally a way to diffuse tension, especially for weaker people against dominant people. Regardless of whether you've met another bisexual (knowingly) in your entire time on Earth, you'll be placed in enough situations where you are weak and need to protect yourself that you'll instinctively develop humor as a tool.

Puns... are easy. You don't have to be smart or naturally witty to throw a pun out to the room and make everyone laugh. It doesn't even have to make sense, just find a word that sounds like another word and boom! Anger reduced.
