Did you first think you were lesbian/gay or straight before understanding you were bi? Or did you accept it right away? by usehername in Bisexuals

[–]Newbie27 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I thought I was lesbian at first because I'm super into women, and I was always a tomboy growing up, very masculine, but I have found two males cute and very attractive, so I know im a bisexual. I would say it's 90/10 in terms of me being more attracted to women then men. I like my sexuality and who I am, but it's hard to not find my group of people online. Lesbians at least have lchat to go to, I've been on there, and have been rejected for being bi, been called a men lover when I'm a total girls girl. It's been a learning curve to try to find a good space online to share my views and opinions with. I totally understand lesbians need to have their own space, and I would never disrespect what lesbians had to go through to gain more acceptance in society. I wish there could be more solidarity between bis and lesbians though.

My definition of femininity is a classically beautiful woman, who radiates a feminine energy, and carries herself gracefully, you'll know it when you see it type of thing.

I like femininity way more. I find myself super attracted to feminine looking straight women the most, as a bisexual woman that prefers women. I myself am very masculine for a woman, pretty butch myself. The type of feminine women I like are, for example, mariana larrabure de orbegoso who was miss peru 1998.

And why is it an "umbrella term"? You're either are or are not. This vague and unspecified bisexuality+ garbage dilutes the identity, and paves the way for posers and sidlers. It's like what Paula C. Rust talked about in her book. If you stubbornly refuse to define your own label to appear "openminded", "inclusive", and not offend the emotionally unstable, someone else(opportunists) will do it for you. And then everything they do or say can be sloughed onto you.

Yes, very true, although in this case it's monos looking down on other monos for not being "authentic" (or whatever you wanna call it), which is a different dynamic. It's more like gatekeeping then straight-up bigotry. (not to say that it's less bad or whatever, I'm just saying)

You can go on "lesbian" websites/forums and to social groups, bars, etc. It is NOT invading as it is not as though you are a heterosexual man or someone TS/TG who is insisting that lesbian women date and have sex with men.

I generally avoid reddit, Chan, and other websites as they are not that good and are a mess like you said.

I would suggest local bisexual social and discussion groups but they tend to be overrun with LGBTQWHATEVERUSELESSLETTERWILLTHEYADDNEXT and professional activist types. They are not bad for making friends but I am not there to talk about transsexuals, or anything not really related to bisexuality.

Would upset the audience. Not only straights either, and while I love my fellow LG, let's be realistic here. Some LG can be hypocritical about being "anti phobic". Homophobia is bad but these some will go off the rails when a individual bisexual does something.

It won't be "straight enough" or "gay enough." Bisexuals gotta "choose a side," and showing a bisexual who's in a opposite sex relationship while still being labeled as bisexual can get quite the reaction. Even if they never dated the opposite sex at all.

Because every media is incapable of creating new diverse characters, so they have to retcon old characters. Like we see new mermaid movie with black character and new star wars movie with female skywalker.

Now if a character was already straight they can't make them homosexual, so the best approach is making them bisexual. "Oh I was bisexual all along"

It's less of representation and more of rainbow capitalism.

I think this has something to do with the fact that: 1.] public figures outside the entertainment sphere are disproportionately men; and 2.] bisexuality is even more stigmatized in men than in women (probably because the latter are simply understood as straight).

So bi men are less likely to be out about it. And, if they are? The media generally just reports them as gay anyway.

[–]BiHorror 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

My personal definition? Femininity to me is someone who's "soft" (note: NOT in a bad way). They're gentle, nurturing, caring, etc. For masculinity, someone who's tough in one word. Someone who can take the lead.

This also involves appearance but I won't get into that.

I like feminine women. For men, I like masculine men. So both but for specific sexes? I mean, I could like masculine women, but there's a specific type of masculine that I like (which borders more onto androgynous if anything). Not necessarily into feminine men.

The argument that all gendered behavioral differences are learned is tired and false. Yes, it's a generalization, but on average, there are observable behavioral differences between males and females, even in early childhood.

This. This gets so tiring. I understand that some are doing this with good intent to remove stereotypes and all but... There is some truth to behavioral differences when it comes to sexes. You could literally find some of these patterns from the most known countries in the world, to the most excluded groups. You can't just sit here and really say that's all "learned" when even these isolated groups show those similar differences and how they react to it.

I've always loved art with pink-blue-purple colour schemes - it has nothing to do with my sexuality. Ever since I was a kid and knew nothing about the LGB(et al.) community, I've just always liked that colour scheme the most. It's got great harmony. It's everywhere in vaporwave/synthwave aesthetics, and it's the main reason why I was so into vapor & synth as a teen. So I was somewhat pleasantly surprised to find out that the bi flag had it too.

With all that being said, those shades in particular are.... not my favourite. Don't know why Michael chose (in my opinion) some of the ugliest shades of pink/blue/purple for our flag. It could have been so much prettier...

Both 1 and 3.

There is prob no either Masculinity or Femininity behavioral(?) preference for me. Their sex is the most important aspect, followed by looks and personality. Though, if I had to pick- someone in the middle of the continuum. But I am attracted to both.

For different times and different people, I have been assumed to be both. But I think that's rather common for a lot of people whose behavior overall is not particularly masculine or feminine.

Yes but two of my longest partnerships/relationships have been with other bisexual men. There is a 3rd bisexual man I am considering dating but he has yet to take any covid vaccines and we live in an area with a super high population and many people have or have had covid.I am vaccinated.

I am not sure if 'the majority of bisexuals think they are or identify as straight/hetero first...' I thought I was gay/homosexual and was not sexually attracted to women until I was older. I know other bisexual men who are also like this.

I became very angry at a gay friend who I literally grew up with, as a close family friend, who knows I am bisexual and he emailed me something about how "bisexual men spread sexual diseases so I would never sleep with one or date a bisexual man..." I remember he identified as bisexual before he came out as gay. I know he has had certain STDs and is not always the best at having safe sex, except for using condoms usually always for anal sex, and he has had unsafe sex with gay men who were HIV+ and not on meds. No I never have had sex or dated him it would be too weird, and I do not have any sexual attraction to him and never have.

Is Pete Buttigieg bisexual? by PatsyStone in Bisexuals

Huh? He says he is gay, so I guess he has no sexual attraction to women. He might have had sex with women when he was not out, closeted, in denial as this is not uncommon but I know multiple gay men who had sex with women when they were not out, out of familial pressure, had no way of meeting gay and bisexual men (this was in the late 1970s and very early 1980s) etc. they said sex with women just showed them how they are not sexually attracted to any woman at all.

It has meaning, but the message is the opposite of what you might expect. All that stuff signals to me that a woman isn't attracted to me. Sexual attraction creates tension and anxiety (just normal situational anxiety, not the pathological kind), even in confident women. If there's easy breeze friendliness I know it's most likely platonic. If I feel tension on the other hand I know we're doing the dance.

Anyone else confused about their sexuality? by suzew in Bisexuals

[–]ElectricSheep 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

So women aren't horny? Or do you only care about objectification where it concerns women, and not men? Take one look at the explosion of onlyfans and tell me women do not objectify or sexualize themselves, with pride and joy, explicitly for the purpose of sexual gratification, by their own accord.

Or do you think men should be punished for having sex drives? Do you think women don't have that, or are they just magically exempt from the same scrutiny?

How does this relate to your sexuality?

I do not feel broken. Sexuality doesn't define a person. For me, I'm not sure what my sexuality ultimately will be. I am currently leaning more towards gay in the bisexual spectrum. I get off to gay porn.

Not broken but it is annoying. And in the instances where the heart says yes but the brain says no (or vice versa) are very annoying.

My solution is to just forget about it and focus on other things.

for me, it was more than a decade past the point where I really should have realised that I'm not straight, and even when I actually managed to sit down and break though it all, I still felt quite some resistance until I actually was willing to admitt it to myself. And then it still took me another 1 1/2 years until I dared to come out.

What do you think others mistake and/or need to realize about bisexuality? by [deleted] in Bisexuals

[–]TwoProngs 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm assumed to be open to ANYTHING, like bisexuals are a blank slate to be painted on... I've gotten numerous offers for kink/BDSM and many other things...

What I've seen is that a plethora of people who are into alternatives such as BDSM do identify as bisexual, as opposed to a general-population breakdown of sexual identity. Or, in other words, why is it that "bisexuals" commonly have something else going on? Which isn't to say that there are no plain bisexuals out there, obviously there are. Put yet another way: sample sexual subcultures, find a multitude of "bisexuals."

It begs the question "why?" Are they bisexual or... are they into their "thing" and sex (male/female) takes a backseat? There is this huge dearth of "bisexual community," but when you stick your head into one of these subcultures, "bisexuals," everywhere.

Yet, their sexual identity isn't leading with bisexual, it's leading with whatever their thing is.

Suppose for the first thirty years of your life you had a concept of apples and oranges. Then one day, someone hands you a lemon. That does not mean that your understanding of an apple or an orange was wrong, it was entirely correct. Still is: there are apples and oranges. But what do do with the lemon? It is more similar to the orange, but it is not an orange, and it is certainly not an apple. Is the lemon an orange? Or does the new-found lemon mean that perhaps so far, you've been right, but there are other things one must consider?

Or you could be naive and just say, well the lemon is most similar to the orange, and after all, the Nobel committee in 2021 awarded one of those coveted awards to some researchers that demonstrated that the lemon and orange scents/flavors are just identical but mirror-image molecules etc., so, they're the same thing.

But this would not be entirely your doing. What is better? To admit to oneself that they have a deep-seated, immutable, atypical sexuality or to join the ever-growing, celebrated Parthenon of letters? That they are bisexual?

Oh no. Why was it removed? There are so little bisexual spaces that don't subscribe to gender ideology.

Their stance on gender ideology is probably why it was removed.

It's getting harder and hard to find thriving underground communities

Since Discord is going the way of Reddit(Ideological rot) whether or not Microsoft buys it, the bigger hubs for speech and discussion are fading away. Even if someone got it in their head to start another space like the server, it might have to be on some independent offsite, or alt-tech forum/app developed by counterculture types.

I do miss the internet from a mere half decade ago. People were right to say that we are only a generation away from a thought crime dystopia at any time. The metaphorical frog boils even faster now.

That it's a sexual orientation. Nothing more, nothing less.

And that "sexual orientation" does NOT equal "monosexual". Being attracted to only one of the two sexes isn't required. Just that you're attracted to (i.e., oriented towards) people based on their biological sex. Which, like both homosexuals and heterosexuals, we are.

Well, I think the previous commenters already did.

But if you're looking for the in-a-nutshell version, here's one word that sums it up: monosexism.

That's the basis for all of the anti-bisexual attitudes which others have mentioned, I think. The assumption that sexual orientation = monosexual (because, for most people, this is indeed the case). And that, therefore, there is no such thing as bisexuality: it's not a sexual orientation at all. Hence the alternate "explanations" for it: being confused, indecisive, wishy-washy, immature, slutty, phony, etc. And the erasure (cuz, after all, we don't exist).

Thinking about how others view you can aide in self introspection. Nothing wrong with that. Besides, this being asked on the sub once doesn't mean that we think about it all day.
