[–]TitsAndWhiskey 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The concept of capital and those who possess it is as old as human civilization. Linguistically, it comes from the same Latin root as “chattel” or “cattle.” Capitalism cannot be separated from the core concept of trade.

All Marx & co. did was tell us that “capitalists,” i.e. those who possess capital were bad, on the basis that it’s “not fair.”

When you talk about the “trading class,” keep in mind that those with power were in a position of power due to their control of capital. Taking and keeping new land is expensive.

Capitalism is just a machine that turns war into politics through trade.

Trade has always existed since the beginning of time. The trading class just had less power before when most wealth was made off the land.

The premise is a bit of a reach. The mere fact that Karl Marx’s definition of Capitalism is so widely accepted is sad.

When you have to continually redefine and rename the economic system that always evolves to be dominant in every human civilization of any significant size, you might consider that maybe your taxonomy isn’t really an accurate representation of reality.

We didn't get really any increase in power and the amount of fuel that we used over the same period of time means that the total energy output from the engine is unchanged. So it's busted. These devices cannot work in theory, they don't work in practice, save your money, don't purchase them. Hopefully you found this interesting "

People should reflect on what a 'transport device' entails, and what it's used for.

Cars are used to get you somewhere, and also to get you away from persons and situations you've decided it's in your best interest to depart. In the latter scenarios, time is often of the essence.

Any 'authority' mandating such a system should be totally liable for any harm that comes from malfunctions, false alarms, and the decision process by which they decided to prioritize its use.

In simpler times, horse-thieves were routinely hanged because depriving someone of transportation was often a death-sentence on its own. The 'post-industrial West' isn't all that different in some areas.

Two ideas come to mind.

One is that participation is required, perhaps to ensure the surveillance is effective.

The other is that, not only are those who can afford new cars more financially comfortable with more to lose, and potentially in positions of power and able to force their future surveillance participation upon their underlings, but perhaps this is just another way to normalize and enforce the idea of all pervasive surveillance upon the masses. Death by a thousand cuts.

It's unclear whether the marketing department dropped the ball. Why not just just include it in the base price? You could say the car costs $100 to get people through the door, then explain that the radio is a mandatory extra for $100,000.

The idea of a car having all the gubbins required for speech transcription, and being connected to the internet, makes me uncomfortable, even if it is officially "turned off". Just because you don't subscribe, doesn't mean that the state can't subscribe (using your money).

I imagine a future where there will be a perpetual swarm of autonomous vehicles that have basic security and surveillance cameras connected to the internet of things etc. and these auto-vehicles will drive around delivering goods, etc. And if they happen to be solar, they can just park for the rainy days with your goods inside until they're charged up again. Refrigerated and frozen goods would not be allowed to park though.

Maybe these auto-vehicles might even have security drones to follow you, should you feel like liberating their contents.
