Would you give the electric company access to your house to shut off your hot water heater whenever they wanted? ~ They sent me an email telling me it's a great idea.... But I don't want strangers remotely turning off devices in my house.... and my water heater uses gas (not electricity).(john1126.com)

II would be worried if it was my furnace. If my water isn't hot... (Motions at microwave, stove)

Also if your electric company sent you this, it's probably only for electric heaters.

They will also put a remote switch on your HVAC as well, so they can turn your AC off for periods, causing it to work harder to catch up. I would never allow them to do this. It will cost you more than the subsidy they pay you to allow it.
