The problem as I see it is our failure to call out so-called "leaders" for weaponizing the mental illness against stable society under the disingenuous cloak of "compassion".

It strenghens united, cohese groups that dominate society, to the detriment of everyone else.

100% agree. They are using mental illness as part of the weaponization of government against us. History is full of useful idiots.

They are the product of environmental toxins, propaganda, grooming, and enablers.

Treat them with the dignity and respect of any human who is such a victim, but don't be an enabler.

BTW, I just created s/IntellectualDarkWeb and s/OutsideTheBox, which would also be good subs for such discussion.

Disagree. Though you're politicizing and sexualizing this, let's look at the history of mental illness (in the West). Before the 18th century, the mentally ill were dealt with in one's family, looking after their different kinds of needs. Some of the mentally ill were called witches or heathens and burned at the steak. Mental asylums in the 18th century and thereafter removed many of these mentally ill people from their families and from society. In the late 1950s an anti-psychiatry movement challenged the asylum traditions, claiming that people could heal themselves in a number of other ways, rather than in asylums, or with psychiatrists or with psychologists. By the 1970s it was popular to read self-help books while also attending psychotherapy sessions and taking anti-depressants. This continues today. Access to others via the internet in the 2000s expanded approaches to mental illness. Many who were previously considered to be mentally ill began to understand that their conditions were not necessarily part of a mental illness. The modern 'othering' of people who are considered abnormal expanded in the 16th century, became worse in the 18th century, and was reduced in the 1970s. Today in modern democracies that allow freedom of speech and movement there are fewer restrictions on people who are considered 'different'. For the first time in modern history these unusual people have the right to live as they wish in many 1st world countries. There are fascist political movements that want to put a stop to the acceptance of these unusual people in society, because this kind of fascist rhetoric is pupular among voters who hate unusual people. The hatred of unusual people is merely a condition of the increadibly stupid and uneducated fascists in society. There is no good reason to hate unusual people.

I'd argue that you are functioning much better than a number of Saiditors.

Consider for example that Joseph Heller wrote Catch-22 during the period of the initial anti-psychiatry movement:

a combat pilot was crazy by definition (he would have to be crazy to fly combat missions) and since army regulations stipulated that insanity was justification for grounding, a pilot could avoid flight duty by simply asking, but if he asked, he was demonstrating his sanity (anyone who wanted to get out of combat must be sane) and had to keep flying. Catch-22 soon entered the language as the label for any irrational, circular, and impossible situation.

Those who are self-aware of their own potential mental problems are often relatively sane by contrast to those who are unaware of their mental problems. And most people probably have mental problems of some sort.

[–]Mcheetah[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

What about the overwhelming majority who are being hurt by the super-minority of "unusual people?" Why should biological women have to suffer because a dozen troons are insecure with themselves? Why should normal people have to change their vocabulary and/or sexuality to avoid "misgendering" someone who doesn't believe in objective reality or thinks straight men should want to fuck mentally ill men who think they're "women?" What about other people's freedom of speech? Why should that have to be sacrificed for the so-called "victims"?

There is a huge difference between acknowledging crazy people are crazy, and capitulating to their madness. You are arguing we capitulate to their madness, under some thin implication of "they're oppressed and shit," but that does nothing to change the fact that they are still incompatible with everyday modern society. If they all want to be crazy on some isolated island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, then let them. We'll all fund Troon Island and they can all go live there with the pedophiles and furries.

But in normal society, we don't overturn functioning laws and rules of living for crazy people. We don't accept or tolerate the unacceptable or intolerable. Like pedophiles or violent trannies. When they attack our way of life, our freedom of speech, and our tolerance and ability to co-exist, that is more than enough to "hate unusual people." Of course, it's not really them that's the issue, so much as the evil assholes in power giving a platform to these crazy people to erode our rights and freedoms, like trying to decriminalize adult sex with minors, ban "misgendering," and turn the entire Western world into a Californian dystopian shithole.

I know your argument is a lack of a proper argument, but even going by your own logic of "live and let live," this isn't the case, because normal men and women are being punished at the hands of the insane, the confused, and the degenerate minority. If you ("you" in the general sense) want to do OnlyFans and be a useless whore to society, you do you, but then don't try to "cancel" us or get us fired from work because we don't respect you for being a useless whore who does OnlyFans and contributes literally nothing of value to any relationship or society at large. Same if you're an insecure gender-dysmorphic male who thinks you're "a woman on the inside." You don't get to fuck up real women's sports because you want to pretend your penis is a macro-clitoris.

The "unusuals" don't just want to be unusual on their own; they want everyone else to give them a standing ovation, call them "stunning and brave," kowtow to them as their personal slaves, and destroy all of society in the process. So, in short: Fuck that.

[–]g0ldfish 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

What about the overwhelming majority who are being hurt by the super-minority of "unusual people?"

They're not.

The propaganda against and hatred of everything that, and everyone who, is not part of the Republican agenda is the origin of the OP's concerns. It's the only way in which Republicans can win elections. It's an old fascist method.

I knew you were retarded the moment you uttered the word "fascist," but now that you dropped the R-word, this confirms it. And no, I'm not even a Reeeeeeeeee-publican or right-leaning!

I wanted people to comment about mentally ill idiots, not for one of them to actually comment here. I wouldn't be surprised if this Reddit mod is also a "child lover." Well, I can't argue against Flat Earth Logic, so I guess this will be my last comment to this "triggered" pseudo-intellectual smug Wokémon. Not like they/them even counter-argued any of the points I made anyway, so there'd be nothing to debate against.

The internet helped create alternate realities that formed mentally ill people like you, willing to spend your days parroting lies and far right talking points. There's not a single original or factual thought in any of it. Ask any normal person.

Modern medicine allowed the Law of Natural Selection (survival of the fittest) to be thwarted. Miscreants abounded. Then there’s the Welfare State paying the miscreants to have yet more miscreant children. I hope we aren’t doomed.

Ghettos are self-perpetuating: smart people leave while the dumb ones can’t. Yes, there are a few ghetto people who have enough smarts to leave (often by joining the military). But there’s always going to be a bottom 20% or 30% in any society who have to live in poverty; it’s normal.

The common "wisdom" of today values moral and cultural relativism and is openly hostile to normality. Bolstering the weirdos and rejects is seen as progressive because apparently progressive means subverting and dismantling everything that's (ew) normal.

      [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yes and no, depends on how far we are talking about it.

Some degree of tolerance is good. Some kid with cerebral palsy or some retarded kid or someone with downs or something, might not be totally in control of their actions and there might not be great treatment available, from there it really depends on context, someone with downs might make a bunch of annoying verbalizations or something that bothers people, and in a context like a movie theater, or a public speech, or something like that, they need to be quiet, and if they can't be it is reasonable to make them leave I think, but in terms of, being on the street, riding the bus, or some other context where silence is typically expected but not actually required, it's best to just leave them be and tolerate the annoying behavior since you understand they can't help it and probably don't even realize it.

The thing is if we don't bother to take the context into account it gets retarded quickly. The handicapped generally shouldn't have extra barriers put into their lives, I agree, they should be reasonably accommodated, also agree, but you can't say they are entitled to everything because of their handicap, a blind person isn't entitled to get a driver's license for example since it's utter lunacy to issue one to someone who physically can't drive safely. But on that same vein it's fine to let them bring animals like a seeing eye dog into places that normally you wouldn't allow animals.

So the real question is how far you go along with it? And I say that it's about the time when they stop wanting to be left alone and start wanting unnecessary and disruptive accomodations. It's reasonable to let people put in a preferred name for example. I don't care. But I can't force anyone to call you by your preferred name. Or pronoun, or anything, and you can't either.

      [–]Mcheetah[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Now, hold on now! That's way too much common sense talk around here! "Don't let blind people drive? Don't let biological men compete against biological women in physical athletic sports competitions where money and career advancements are on the line? Don't let transwomen rape biological women in public restrooms? Don't force people to lie to themselves by using false pronouns to capitulate to one's fictional gender identities?" Pretty damn ableist and transphobic, if you ask me!

How do you define 'Mentally ill'? How do you measure the degree of 'mental illness' a person might have? How do you measure the degree of danger a 'mentally ill' person might pose to society?

The reason I ask is because the President of the US (for example) is busy arming Nazis to fight Russia in the full knowledge that Russia is a nuclear armed state. At the same time he is provoking China, another nuclear state. I would suggest that allowing that geriatric old fool to do the stuff he is doing is the very definition of taking him seriously. And yet his actions have the potential to destroy everything we know and love.

Someone who thinks they are a Cat, is, to my mind less of an issue to the world than someone who thinks Russia and China won't react to being poked with a stick. I'd rather we treat that old fart for thought defects than cat-boy, who, let's face it, isn't a problem to anyone really.

      [–]BobOki 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

How do you measure mentally ill? There are books for that, pretty straight forward. Maybe try to read them before throwing your feelings out in a wall-o-text.

      [–]Death_By_Democracy 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

How do you define 'Mentally ill'?

OK - you don't understand what a question is. I'll help you...

Now this symbol '?' means the words before it form what we call 'a question'. It's a sort of enquiry. The idea is that the person who wrote the words before the '?' is asking the question, and the question is going to be answered by someone other than the person asking the question. Do you do get that? It's a difficult concept I know, but I am sure if you try, you will understand it. There are two people, see? One asks the question and the other one tries to answer it.

Now, in the question, I used the word 'you'. That means you, not me. To answer the question successfully you need to address whether you understand the issue asked about. What I understand is outside the range of the question. The question is whether YOU understand it. That's why I made my comment a question addressed to YOU. See?

Now the subject of the question. This is important. The subject is 'Mental illness'. I won't go any further than that because I don't want to answer the question for you.

So, let's put that all together. I am asking YOU what YOU think Mental Illness is. See?

This is a bit tricky, and I can see where you went wrong. Have another go.

      [–]BobOki 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

He meant you, not me. I answered your question encompassing ANYONE you want because defining mental illness is not how you "feel" about it today or someone with different opinions than you suddenly fit the bill. You also seem QUITE confused about being told the answer to your question, then a recommendation that you should, as well, follow it because you seem QUITE confused on the subject as a whole.

I know it is hard to actually do research before opening your mouth and vomiting stupid, but please at least try.

      [–]Mcheetah[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Biden doesn't have any actual power, especially any power to start nuclear war. He isn't even allowed to speak without "their" permission, whoever "they" are (probably Klaus Schwab, Bill Gates, and Hillary Clinton.)

Russia doesn't have any actual power, especially since they're getting their shit kicked in by a third world country half their size right now, and Russia has been sanctioned to shit and are bleeding to death financially, and 95% of the Russian military doesn't even want to be in this war. The fact Putin hasn't been assassinated yet is more of a sign his personal security is stronger than his country's entire military force. If not for oil, Russia would've had its second downfall in the last 40 years.

The Chinese Communist Party doesn't have any real power, besides the financial backing that retarded idiots in Western mega-corporations give them. China's military is a paper tiger, of all paper tigers, their population is full of depressed incel men who have no jobs and no women to even sleep with due to the One Child Policy and if drafted into war, would probably be more inclined to kill themselves than any overpowered American/NATO-backed military (even as woke as they're trying to make the US army right now), and China's economy is on the verge of collapse due to heavy COVID restrictions, a housing collapse, a nihilistic generation of young adult males (of which 46% are unemployed), increasing global isolation in economic trade, a ton of natural disasters, a food shortage, and general Communist super-incompetence for several years now.

In short, no one takes Biden or any of the dumb-fucks in Washington seriously, or at least, no more seriously than they do some 6'3" linebacker who thinks he's a "she/her." America survives right now only because the rest of the world is even more fucking incompetent than Biden and company, but that's the most depressing part of all.

If Trump was still in power, we'd have probably ended the CCP and North Korea right now, and have Syria and Saudi Arabia eating out of Uncle Sam's hand. When they fucked over democracy in 2020 to get Puppet Pal Biden into office "in the most secure election in history," they really fucked over the rest of the world. And they keep the US down through all the Culture War indoctrination and shit, so no strong men rise up and Gen Z and Gen Alpha remain being a bunch of mentally ill pussies and weaklings too afraid to "misgender" someone.

In other words; we'd have achieved world peace by now if not for the scummy fucks at the top making sure everyone remains mentally ill and depressed in First World countries.

Outsiders, weirdos, geeks, etc, were always made fun of and often physically abused. It was the only way people, whose only tool was violence, knew how to get them to be "normal." It was/is wrong and so people began to actively fight against bullying. The basic idea that not every outsider has problems that need to be corrected is widely accepted.

The old outsiders didn't care to be a part of society. They didn't need to be accepted. They ignored things they didn't like and did their own thing. The outsiders of today don't want to be left alone. They want to be catered to and celebrated and it's understandable that many people want nothing to do with it. We've shifted from bullying to normalize people to bullying to radicalize people. As each new group of radicals gets their wishes, a new group makes even more ridiculous demands while simultaneously pretending that they're being oppressed.

I fully agree. I'd also say, bullying is bad, but mocking and deriding the insane or morally contemptible, is perfectly acceptable. The first generation to ban bullying post-Columbine ended up as Milhouse Millennials; thin-skinned, Twitter-using, insult-spouting, weak-minded, woke, feeble, useless pussies who deserve to be punched in the face for good reason, unlike an innocent victim of bullying.

In other words, zero bullying leads to the weak becoming the new bullies. Correcting bad behavior has its purpose and it doesn't have to get as extreme as actual violence against "unusual people." It can be enough to just laugh at them, or exclude them from general socialization.

As you said, they can be weird on their own (I'm certainly not the conformist type myself), but the "weird people" of today want their asses wiped and free shit just for existing. They want six-figure diversity hire jobs for it and we're just supposed to sit there and act like it's justified and acceptable.

The mentally ill? These people are more ignored and mistreated than ever. No, the ones who we are capitulating to are people who use mental illnesses and sexualities as identities and weapons. Since narcissism is not a mental illness, I wouldn't say they are mentally ill.

We have a problem with men who never grew past their teenager years and they still believe homosexuality is a disorder or disabled people should be eradicated by natural selection. These people are obnoxiously stupid, but not the biggest problem. Maybe if they stopped with that bullshit we could focus on more important things, since they only validate the narcissists and make the issue worse than it is.

I don't know if I'd agree with that.

Are you saying women can't/don't believe that, too? Kinda misogynist, dontcha think? 🤔 😄

Malthus won’t be denied. We kept alive miscreants and now they proliferate. They can’t keep a modern civilization going (IQs are dropping now like mad) and people are becoming like violent ghetto trash. This will cause a collapse similar to the Bronze Age collapse of around 1200 BCE.

      Malthus always wins eventually.
