Low of 44F here and I'm loving it. It was a rather warm Christmas season until this cold wave.

We're going camping this Thursday so we can freeze our butts off on the coldest days of the year. 19 / 21F

Heh, been a while since I did any winter camping.

I feel like we waited 8 months for this weather. It's been pretty warm, triple digit weather during the summer. We have tried camping in the heat, that was miserable, everyone was irritable. Camping in the bitter cold gives that man vs. nature satisfaction, like we're surviving against the elements, even though if worst comes to worse we can always hop in the cars fifteen feet away and warm ourselves or drive away.

"Houston could see temperatures in the teens and wind chills near zero Friday morning."

Where's my year-round Summer time! I was promised year-round Summer time back in 1992, darn it!

Thanks, clouds! I'm ok here. It's freezing, but I have tiny space heaters. Yay, space heaters. And water simmering for extra humidity.

You ok? Looks like Southern Florida is the only place that's not chilly right now. :(

I'm glad you reported in, tiny-brown-mug, and glad for you to have space heaters. I have one on either side of me right now! Here is a picture of the newest one I picked up this season:

electric space heater

I like the glow it makes, but it does not run long before shutting itself off. Now if we could just keep our electricity going, we can keep the heaters going. But if the power turned off, the Lord will provide what we need, and I have a wood fireplace and lots of wood to burn.

Your idea to simmer water is good! My skin typically gets dry every winter, so I should try your idea. And the energy used to heat the water is not wasted, but also heats the house.

Ooh, nice! I'm grateful you have a wood fireplace! That's the smartest "appliance" to have in one's house at this point.

I wish I could use the fireplace more often, but my son is afraid it will catch the house on fire. To keep the peace with him, I refrain from using the fireplace. But if the power shuts off and if it gets cold, he might beg me to light the fire!

I've had covid 7 times today, and I died twice, but other than that I'm good!

We get this every year. It has been a really warm december so far. We do what we must.

"In some places, this will be the coldest December weather since at least 1989."

Looks like a standard if not somewhat mild December to me, from growing up in the Midwest. The Great Lakes and Northern US boarder areas should be very used to this by now, as well as some hefty snowfall to come.
