18 years vs 9 months, why do women get to opt out of such a short period of work, while men cannot opt out of a lifetime of slavery?

Because then the whole society will have to pay to support YOUR child for at least 18 years and this isn't quite fair.

Your child, your responsibility, not tax payers.
