Humans are cursed with insane sexual dimorphism as described in Genesis 3. Animals get it too but nowhere near as much (but still too much). And humans are also wired to select for features that will make it even worse. But females hold nearly all of the selective power, which is why males have to simp for them. I think it is the males who are getting farther away from normal. Males are shoehorned into a very specific biological purpose, which is to ensure the wellbeing of females and their success at reproduction. Female biology allows them to live actual lives, only expecting them to give birth, and luckily modern science has found ways to stop even that. But nothing can be done for males, whose entire being is rebuilt from the ground up on his expendable role. You may have heard of the famous incel line "men under 6' can't get a date". Now that's bogus but there is definitely truth to the idea that women have huge expectations for men. The reason is because they're tricked by instincts into being natural selection's agents, choosing the most "masculine" and sexually dimorphic partners (and even expecting men who aren't their mate to fulfill these obligations to them). But men are made desperate by their biology so they'll take anything they can get I guess.
