What is the best USB-bootable Linux-system, to disinfect some Windows clients that have gotten infected ?

Because of the risk of data loss i can't pxe every laptop we bought. But i need them to run a "clean" and "fresh" Windows 10 OS. Because people working with these clients probably need data only on these hdds of these computers and i wanna ensure that they are relatively "clean" before i allow them in my intranet.

Use RUFUS to put it on a USB drive. Has about four different AV programs on it. Can scan the hard drive for viruses and errors.

Thanks for the quick help. I'll try both and then will post an opinion on which one worked better for me. SInce i gotta fix some of these laptops though, this might take awhile.

knoppix is the best i've seen.

after reading comment about RUFUS .. i'd hafta say that seems more what you are after tho

Unless things have changed since I retired in 2008 the best way to "clean a windows PC" is a fresh install. Last I read no antivirus software cleas a drive 100%.

That's also my point of view in a fuzzy, short description. But the people i need (e.g. one really smart architect and two other guys) just need their fucked up windows to work. I neither have the energy or the will to migrate their minds to a state where they start using reasonable things. I just need what they can do, so they can use their fucked-up software.

Of course there are a lot of reasonable security concers alone.

I know the people your dealing with, if I do work one anyones PC I just tell them it's the only solution. Otherwise I don't work on it.

Knoppix is fine, eventhough it is KDE or Plasma.

But hirensbootcd is also nicely executed since it offers some really nice selected windows tools.

Both are apply-able for this endeavor. Thanks saidit.
