Why does Fanfiction (pre 2018) have more full adventure stories for any given fandom and now it's mostly smut dumps and weird fanfic rants?

Smut dumps existed back then but were more over shadowed by at least attemps at adventure stories and even half decent self inserts where now neither seem to be popular. You have to go back to 2018 on the archives to start finding them. All my favorite fandoms have died off since then and nobody writes AND furthermroe nobody excepts constructive criticism anymore it seems a new 'safe space' trend has emerged.
Everyone has moved to A02 which has an anti feedback system where you can't say anything more then 'Thanks!'

I'm actually serious in all the fandoms I have gone there used to be more decent adventure length stories that had a purpose and moral reason now it's just all fluff and feels like Airport novels at best.

It is easier to get Patreon donations for pornographic works, including derivative works. Online patronage platforms didn't take off (or exist?) pre-2010.

Also derivative works, from fanfiction to video game mods, exits the legal grey zone. So the rights holder may legally own a derivative work, but they will never want someone's SFM porn or smutty fanfic. Anyone with a moderately decent adventure idea is more likely to make it original like their own novel or indie game. Because now, there is a legal precedent to plagiarizing and selling someone else's fanwork.

What do you mean by donations for pornographic works? Is that why it's all smut dumps now? I have seen small attempts that often get abandoned to make full adventure stories and the smut crap takes over.

I mean any online patronage platform like ko-fi, patreon, fanbox, etc.
