Its because of the YouTube algorithm. Short videos dont do well (which screws over animators), long videos dont do well either. Although the 'ideal' length of video has fluctuated over the years from 5 minutes, to 8 minutes, then 15 minutes - I think it is gone back to 9 or 10 minutes now. That is the optimal length of time for a video based on the algorithm.
This calculation doesnt include YouTube shorts.

This is one of the reasons I prefer to read rather than watch a video. Although sometimes it helps to see a visual representation, usually I can just read the information I need in a fraction of the time compared to watching it, even if the video did get to the point.

You can also just skip to the 30-50% mark with YT videos right off the bat usually.

10 minutes is the minimum length for ad monetizing.

I thought they get one ad, then after 10 minutes get a second. That's why everything is 11-13 minutes these days.

Yep. That with a face, preferably a nice ass or set of tits and a red circle and an arrow are the meta.

DirewolfGhost 4 insightful - 2 fun - 13 hours ago 10 minutes is the minimum length for ad monetizing.

Yes and no.
10 minutes is the minimum length in which you can fit more than one advert. So you can have a pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll adverts. Yum Yum Advertiser Money Yum!

Because the new algorithm pays them based on watch time instead of views. So now they have to stretch their videos out as long as they can with filler.

I don't see how this is a good strategy, because it's made the quality go waaaaaaaaay down. Especially now that they're starting to shill industry plants and rig the algorithm. Dream is a perfect example of one.

It’s like being asked to write a 1,000 word essay in school about something easily explained. They need to have a certain time length of video for the algorithm. They could easily make a 3 minute video to explain what they are doing but it will screw them over in ad revenue so they have to make it longer.

That's why the retail scene wrecked. These 'educated' idiots took it over in the 90s and ran it to the ground then had (have) the nerves to blame Amazon because Amazon backs the consumer when shit goes flying and the merchant is an asshole. They take collage grade essays like 'Brown paint attracts consumers more so all stores should apply X' and then you see expensive remodeling that is ugly and intrusive. Then shortly thereafter the stores have to 'fire' people then close a few stores then close a few more then before you know it declare bankruptcy. It used to be the family ran the store then members of the family that at least had SOME care to it though not usually as good as when the original owner was in charge.

Clickbait. They're paid for the view time, and so, the motivation for them is to make the longest possible video with the least possible content, and therefore spread their content across as many ponderous videos as possible.

It comes down to ad revenue and how youtube prioritizes content. 10 minutes is the magic number. If you've ever watched TheQuartering's videos the guy makes 10 minute videos all day where he says absolutely nothing of any value in them.

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

(((TheQuartering))) is like so many others.

Many are timesucks to distract you from finding real critical thought and authentic answers.

Rarely do they ever ask questions about the taboo topics or question what's above the government and corporations orchestrating all the chaos that "just seems like coincidence".

You might be surprised how many of (((them))) are artificially promoted.

They will rail against their untouchable government "leaders" but won't ever criticise their unquestionable religious or economic masters.

Or the opposite!

Why ? Because they like to Get MONEY for continuously blabbing without a resolution, solution or resolve.

The easy copy/pasta for money. And some of them are narcissists who make 1-2hr. videos Daily. Love to hear themselves blab.

That's a great question. Thank you for asking.

In this following comment, I'm going to address a commonly asked question. "Why do most content creators on YT doing reviews tend to repeat themselves and not get to the fucking point"?

Many people ask this question. It's a question that gets asked a lot. Because a lot of people ask it.

And it's a great question.

But first, a word from our sponsor.

Do you know that the government is reading every word you write and recording every button you click? Stop that now by downloading NordVPN™ today. Use the coupon code "BravoVictor" to get 50%! Don't take chances with your online privacy. Get NordVPN™ today!

As I was saying. YT creators often take a very long time to get to the point. It's a frustration many people share. Why is this? Because so many take forever to get to the point.

But really, why? Everyone loves it when people get to the point. Noted researcher Edward Hayes wrote that the better part of valor is brevity. And who could disagree with that?

Moreover, studies show that people lose interest very quickly when you don't get to the point in a timely manner. The University of California found that 70% of viewers clicked away from videos when it didn't get to the point fast enough.

So then why do content creators continue creating content that seems to go on and on without actually saying anything? The answer they found was fascinating.

But first, another word from our sponsor. European Conquest. In these trying times of Russian invasions, wouldn't it be fun to reduce your daily stresses with a little escapist entertainment? We think so. Which is why you should play European Conquest, a real time warfare game you can play from your phone! Now, you too can invade a sovereign nation and exert your will! Control tanks, planes, infantry, and even the media to dominate your opponents!

Anyways, that concludes my response. I hope that answers your question. Thank you for reading.

I downvoted the video. BYE!

[–]Canbot 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

A lot of "news" stories online are exactly like that. I think it is because they are written by bots. The bots source a story and rewrite it and repost it. Given the fact that deep fakes exists it is entirely possible that some of those content creators are bots.

[–]LarrySwinger2 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I don't think we're there quite yet. There's an endless supply of people who will comply with Youtube's changing algorithm in an attempt to escape their regular job, so it feels natural that people will make such videos. The idea that deep fakes are actually applied to the extent you're proposing, on the other hand, is very speculative. Also, it's very difficult to create a realistic deepfake. Check out this video.

If we had an alternative to youtube this wouldn't happen
