What evidence is there that we are living in a simulation? I've heard this before but I assumed it was mainly a joke or just a thought experiment.

No, it's probably true, and whoever controls it is apparently sadistic and I'm one of their "slowly drive to insanity" targets.
Observations in physics point subtly to simulation.

What observations? There has long been some speculation that the precise values of certain subatomic phenomena, that if varied the slightest amount would make the existence of matter impossible, was evidence of some kind of intelligent design, but there is another explanation for that, including the unsettling possibility that we are currently existing in a false vaccum that could decay and wipe out all matter at any moment, and at some point eventually will. Either way none of that requires a simulation.

Hopefully soon, I won't miss it.
Precision and rounding errors have been observed, and keep in mind that certain laws of physics only make sense in a virtual world, such as the light speed cap. Another one I found out is that there are far-flung particles from other galaxies, and in reality they should come from all directions, but apparently they do not which hints at a computer algorithm that uses predetermined paths.
