won't they just come back as socks2 or bctuallynot? Block them and worry not about their disingenuous trolling

[–][deleted] 11 insightful - 4 fun11 insightful - 3 fun12 insightful - 4 fun -  (19 children)

I've tried to convince them to block each-other, Jason and socks, but they never listen. I just quit trying eventually. I blocked actuallynot the other day, when it became obvious he was just trying to waste my time (along with a few other trolls).

I don't know about socks, but actuallynot would definitely come back with an army of alt accounts.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 8 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

Blocking socks won't stop him from ruining SaidIt for everyone, including my local friends who I'm trying to bring here. Ignorance is bliss, but ignorance via blocking is no excuse. Intentionally being blind to the abuses is intentionally setting SaidIt up for failure.

Socks is perpetually breaking the rules.

Yes they're obviously timesucks.

If we don't ban them, we'll never know if they'll come back in alts accounts - and ban evasion is a rule I guess but it's not on the FAQ (/u/d3rr ?). I've been unfairly banned TWICE - and neither of those rule-breakers has even been banned once.

But to be fair, your bans and retractions led to the demise of the cancer that's killing /b/ spring dramafest that caused somewhat of a user exodus to other sites. Although we're still waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop when m7 decides what to do about saidit.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Don't blame me for trolls, closed management, management's no show, and the lack of rule enforcement, when they say they want evidence enough to ban them and don't follow through.

Going along to get along is the same bullshit that is going to bring in this vaccine passport bullshit.

A single post once a week for Spring Dramafest was nothing compared to the ongoing trolls, SJWs and Nazis. And a single post this Fall will not turn away people. The world has bigger issues and problems to deal with and I suspect that may be responsible for our numbers (which are on the rise after a dip actually - I looked at Alexa and the other one yesterday while updating the FAQ). Plus there may be more interesting new cohesive communities growing out there like Locals, Odysee, Communities.win, etc. I can only guess.

Yes, SaidIt's days are numbered regardless of M7. The old software may last 1 or 5 or 10 years, or more, but eventually the old code will no longer be supported and d3rr is not interested in transplanting it.

Seems to be an uptick in shill activity.

Here's a recent example from today (ActuallyNot)

https://saidit.net/s/politics/comments/8esz/its_like_the_whole_thing_was_staged_or_something/v7oe?context=3 This is probably a positive sign.

The absurdity of Reddit is causing it's audience to look to less censored alternatives.

It's damage control for the crumbling Reddit PsyOp.

They are desperately trying to keep their fraudulent narrative afloat.

I agree with whomever said they'd just make a new name. . Rather than banning them, a handful of reliable community members could save a few examples of obscenely obvious shilling from the offending account.

Then add a link to these obviously dishonest comments, whenever/wherever this account is pushing nonsense.

They can't hide behind their own lying comments.

Eat Scum, SCUMBAG!!!

Use the scumbags own words against them.

I don't understand this.

[–]FlippyKing 6 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

Maybe moderators of subs could ban them and put in their side bar the pro-tip of blocking them for a better user experience, or at least remind people of that option in the side bar.

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Moderators are allowed to ban people for dragging discussion down the Pyramid of Debate, that's all I'll say.

[–]Node 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

Tell me if I'm "doing it wrong", but blocking socks has also blocked a large number of comment threads. (Can I block a user and still see the replies that follow in that thread?)

But it's surprising how easily one can detect replies to socks in s/all/comments. There's a level of frustration and annoyance that seems unique to his interlocutors. Then you click on context and get the "there's nothing here" message.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

I don't think you are doing anything wrong, that is just how the block function works.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

The block function is VERY incomplete.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Yes! Too bad they aren't interested in fixing things here.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Too bad they aren't interested in fixing things here.

I wouldn't go that far.

There's interest, but there's also reality. It's a matter of limited resources, time, energy, coding, and organization with an outdated software that needs a major overhaul for this free platform. At present there is only d3rr. (I suspect it was mostly only him coding before too.) This SaidIt software is on Python 2 I think and soon servers won't be offering that anymore. We may have to build our own server to host the old code, IF we can convince M7 and D3 to relocate it.

In my naive non-coder humble opinion, in an ideal world, we would build three things:

  1. A Reddit-style skin (not just theme) for an existing well-supported FLOSS (and/or decentralized) forum like phpBB. Lazy users can use it in simplistic Reddit mode and everyone else can use the more powerful features in other modes (ie. Facebook-style, phpBB-style, simple style, advanced style, etc).
  2. A database mirror that would copy all of SaidIt to that new forum.
  3. A way to transfer or set up users accounts onto the new forum.

Ehhhhh is one of them

[–]mahavishnunj 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

someone whining like a bitch about users that hurt your feelings? that is almost ironic from a post i read from someone elsewhere in this thread, lol. this same posters history is one of the most embarrassing things ive seen on this site, but im not naming names.....thats against the rules.

[–]Node 6 insightful - 5 fun6 insightful - 4 fun7 insightful - 5 fun -  (3 children)

but im not naming names

Aircraft types? Btw, did you ever get back to those people who are wondering what ever happened to the user named mahavishnunj they used to know?

Progressive Ears

Anyone remember a guy from long ago, back when PE was still on Yahell, with the moniker "mahavishnunj"? He disappeared and I never found out what happened ...

Poor guy is looking for some closure.

[–]mahavishnunj 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

how anyone could have that name besides me is interesting. but i dont even know who 'those people' would be to get back to. this is the only social media thing i post on.

[–]Node 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

It does seem unlikely, doesn't it? I initially searched to see if your user name is some kind of common name or term, but it appears fairly unique. If you search it on the google, that closure guy is about halfway down the first page for me.

And for what it's worth, I think you're more of just some kind of weirdo than an actual troll or shill. You have too many legitimate opinions to be either of those, at least full time. No harm in mild trolling from time to time.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

_And for what it's worth, [...] No harm in mild trolling from time to time.

That's how I saw it as nothing caught my attention before Airbus pointed at them.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

There are many, but most are minor by comparison.
