Triple Triad from Final Fantasy VIII. A few years ago I looked for some scans of the cards online to make my own deck, but could never find any good enough.

You tried to boot-leg it? lol

I've never heard of that game, to be honest — well, the card game.

I tried, but it doesn't seem like any files are available that I could find.

The game had a super limited run in Japan and now the cards go for hundreds of dollars online, and it's practically impossible to assemble a complete set.

I even tried to get scans from the video game itself, but the assets were so low quality that I finally decided it wasn't worth the effort.

They do that with old Pokémon cards too, and I've heard it costs a fortune to get a decent Yu-Gi-Oh deck. Obscure trading-card games are pretty cool, in my opinion, which is why I spent hours watching YouTube videos about them a few months back.

Spades, maybe? But it's effectively none, since the last time I played cards was on the East German border in the 70s. Here's what I played instead of cards.

The whole game is there, rules, charts and tables, counters, and maps. You could print it out like /u/rdh2121 and play the heck out of it. This is what good war games were like before computers.

That looks really complicated lol.

It was a little challenging to learn the rules, but worth it imo. Hard to find people to play with though. It could take an hour or few to move your pieces a few hexes, as lines of sight needed to be calculated, and many charts and tables needed to be consulted. Computers make things too easy for 'gamers' these days.

it used to be MTG, but then it went woke, before that it was decipher's SWCCG, and now it is cribbage

Cribbage is the perfect 2 player card game, the only one worth playing. Enough decisions to be interesting, but the games don't last long enough to get boring. If you get a dull hand the next one is only a few minutes away.
