I don't think storing dry goods and canned food is wrong. It can even be smart if you're saving money and preparing for a rainy day.
My issue is with preppers who expect a cataclysmic event to happen "any day now" and make no effort to create a life for themselves outside of that. At the very least, you should be starting a family and involving yourself in a community.
I agree that we are looking more at a slow decline rather than a sudden fall. Because of that, people should be improving themselves and their communities, and strengthening the next generation, rather than expecting everything to collapse overnight.
