I'm reasonably confident that it's largely made up of the twitterati, and those who care about their opinions. Unfortunately, that comprises a great number of politicians and CEOs of big tech. I'm pretty sure it's mostly pandering, especially for companies like Amazon.

Yes, Amazon has bent the knee, but I suspect it's at least partially inspired by fear of being targeted. They gave 10 million to essentially terrorists, but that's a drop in the bucket for them. Considering they have 100s of thousands of people driving around alone with valuable items for delivery, if they got targeted by the mob or even a small percentage of them, it would be disastrous.

Not that their paying up will give them immunity, but I'm sure calculations were made about potential liability and losses if they were singled out as a very visible and vulnerable target. If they believe the nonsense they're parroting, its largely irrelevant.
