ROTFL. Where’s the trolling layer (provoking angry responses) or the smearing layer (guilt by association)? You know, when you refuse to even acknowledge an argument and instead play games because you must be the winner even though you don’t know why.

That user has an history of making false accusations.

shill tactic: flip the victim and aggressor

shill tactic: call the person who was threatened, butthurt or overreacting, or some such to belittle them and the incident

Any more to add to my list?

VPR Triangle

I’m going to go ahead and apologise for trolling you (and that is an accurate use of that term). But I’m not going to apologise for pointing out that your behaviour is that of an agitator. Your book’s synopsis says as much. People like you are the reason there is so much hate and confusion these days. Language matters. Redefining terminology so that you can misrepresent others views can have no other effect than to incite hatred. If you act like this in real life and find yourself on the receiving end of hostility, it is your fault.

you are very fucking tedious

[–]jmichaelhudsondotnet[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

no shills are tedious

shill tactic: tell someone their pointing out your shilling is boring, tedious, tiring, dull, etc

shill tactic: always, always personally attack the target

shill tactic: always, always misdirect to the meta, intentions, appearance, surface level rather the point or substance of the matter

any more?

Really have no idea what you're talking about the. Idk how stuff like this makes it to front page.

shill tactic: play dumb

in your case, not an act

And to answer your argument because I am that good, this is obviously about the core values of the entire site and the difference between the stated and operational values of the head admin.

As well as the general awfulness which is allowed here, which negates the entire purpose of an alternative to reddit.

[–]astronautrob 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Still don't think anyone is paying attention my friend. Just get in with your life, it will be ok. Find other purpose, saidit will be ok. It was a good site before you got here and it will be a good site once you leave. Whether or not it has any resemblance to Reddit is irrelevant. Also what exactly are you good at? Your comments are not intelligent or anything of the sort, you just try to point out things and try to "win" debates. Thats not how conversation works in real life my friend. And if saidit has so much awfulness don't just go around pointing it out, that isn't constructive. Try posting quality content and building a decent community here. If we can build a good community people like mrobvious will be naturally shunned. You don't need to tell Mommy or daddy that he is being bad the community will naturally filter out retards. To be frank dude you just seem like a tattletale who wants daddy to fix stuff for you. Take some self responsibility my friend. Learn how to be the bigger person.

shill tactic: belittle person who reports harassment

shill tactic: insult intelligence of target

shill tactic: keep discussion in realm of analysis of intentions, how things "seem", appearances, reject the main points at issue

[–]comments 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I don't really agree with anything in the above comment and I want /u/jmichaelhudsondotnet and anyone else passing by to know. not because I agree with him either or whatever, I just want to make it more clear that this is only one person's viewpoint in the comment I'm replying to.

Holding people accountable when they say they're offering something but then don't seem to actually be offering the thing (magnora7 as per OP) is a positive, helpful activity. "Just go somewhere else" is encouraging someone to self-marginalize. There's no reason jmh can't participate in culture here just as much as anyone else, and I think he's right when he points out the tactics being used sometimes. It's interesting to see the analysis of the techniques because it isn't always easy to put my finger on what's going on when people don't seem to be acting in good faith.

[–]astronautrob 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

There should be no reason that any one can or can not participate in this community. To try and marginalize any one person is not what this site is about.

[–]comments 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

shill tactic: call the person who was threatened, butthurt or overreacting, or some such to belittle them and the incident

this is also called "minimization" and yes it's a common thing with people who do or condone trying to hurt others.

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (6 children)

Yeah that MrObvious dude gives me a serious case of rolleyes...

[–]Jesus 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

I was called a shill by him as well. Though, I think he just thinks everyone is a shill who might not have the same opinion as him. His hesrt seems like it is in the right place.

[–]Chipit 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

...

The irony...oh, the rich, delicious irony of the man who calls everyone else a shill...complaining about being called a shill.

[–]Jesus 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I don't call anyone a shill. Not you.

[–]Chipit 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I'm certain you've called me a "ZioCon shill" dozens of times. Who else here even uses the term?!?

[–]Jesus 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

James Petras does. I never called you one, but others who I believe are agents and gatekeepers shilling the 9/11 sanctioned narrative.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Oh, my. Yeah, maybe it is... ;-)

[–]Drewski 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

J, I think you'll find that if you post any controversial opinion online you're going to get some name calling, shilling, attempting to derail the topic, etc. I imagine most of us have experienced it in some way or another, including here on Saidit. I understand it can be upsetting, but I'd rather Saidit err on the side of free speech than censoring content and opinions. As magnora7 has said, the pyramid of debate is more of a guideline than a strict rulebook for content moderation.

I've found that the best thing to do is just ignore trolls and low effort replies. It's not worth your time and energy, and if you show that you're becoming agitated by their tactics they're just going to intensify them.

[–]jmichaelhudsondotnet[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I can hear that, this comment I am posting about in particular was beyond the pale, and it was overlooked, oddly, when reported, and it was a mountain of it from a single user, and it was clearly a form of harassment.

I am being pretty thick skinned I think about the rest of it, otherwise you turn into a lolcow.

Also, though, it is my work, I write books about this type of thing, so part of it is a demonstration to draw attention so others can see.

https://leanpub.com/mentalselfdefense

I have been at this a long time, strangers on the internet are not my main concern, being stalked by thugs is my much bigger concern, which is happening and one of the things I am writing about. People need to know, there is a reason to be anonymous, but some one has to stand up to them.

I am compiling a list of tactics, maybe it is a fools errand, but I consider it research, and my way practicing intellectual jujitsu and kung fu.

I will never be a soldier(i hope, probably, shit would have to be dire....), but this is my part of doing the intellectual side of engaging in the conflict against, you know, the forces of evil.

I am also more concerned about the ratio of trolls to humans, would sure like to see more players on the field against the sockpuppets and robot horde.

However, just so you know, your response is also a form of a shill tactic that benefits them, "dont be so butthurt", especially if your only response is to say something to me and not them or the admins.

Fair enough?

[–]Drewski 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I was just offering an anecdote based on my experience in good faith, but if you want to call me a shill too more power to ya.

[–]jmichaelhudsondotnet[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

An anecdote is like a story, you are offering me more of a tip or advice, which is ok.

I did not call you a shill, I said you are doing something that shills often do. Not because what you said is wrong or bad, but because of your omission of addressing the point of the OP.

fair enough?

(but if you drag it out and refuse to meet in the middle ground, well then...)

[–]comments 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I did not call you a shill, I said you are doing something that shills often do.

People pick up what seems "normal" behavior from those around them sometimes. I've heard the same advice time and time and time again -- "if you don't like it, just ignore it." I've repeated it too. I'm not sure now if it's good advice or not. Sometimes things need to be addressed, you wouldn't ignore early signs of an illness in your body, why do it in other contexts? But it's also true that people sometimes go around with the hope of provoking some sort of reaction, and that just building a good environment people can move to often seems more helpful than fighting a bad environment. But I suppose that's a form of allowing an invasion or allowing yourself to be marginalized, in a way.

I think pointing out the tactics people are using is helpful. Though I don't like the degree to which it's done with animosity and insults too, that doesn't really seem helpful to me and seems suspect.

evil is real. chances that the bonkers trolling this post is about are related to them, quite good.

being stalked is not fun. it is not a good way to convince anyone your religion is true and that your country is legitimate.

blah blah blah

[–]Jesus 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Well, I've seen plenty of users spouting ad hominems. I'll call people ZioCons, because they are promoting the Zionist neocon doctrine, coined by James Petras; but there's a slew of users calling others schizo, insane, crazy, retarded, libtard, blah, blah, blah.

[–]jmichaelhudsondotnet[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Update, it appears action was taken, entire thread is now deleted.

Sadly, inbox still full of ad hom attacks, but in the good news department they are not quite so heinous.

However, in this way that is still a shill tactic, to push the envelope, test the boundaries, and this creates a safe space for garden variety shilling and personal attacks.

We will see how it goes. Still would like to know why the first glance over of this particular comment did not warrant immediate action until I spent an hour putting together this meme. And had I not archived it, the event would be impossible to prove even happened.

Which is the critical necessity of an archive server, thank you iceland, live long and prosper, you da real mvp.

There's nothing worse or cringy as a dork that studies the fallacies and brings them into an actual conversation.

[–]comments 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I like it! I think it's pretty helpful and interesting to see these concepts in action, see how they affect the conversation, etc. It helps to be able to recognize them and to understand why people care about them, and seems like it probably helps improve everyone's ability to have helpful discussions.

u/jmichaelhudsondotnet

I agree with the mods/admins. Besides illegal content and spam, mods shouldn't get involved and censor people, even If they are assholes. Better let a few bad apples get away than to be censored for having an unpopular opinion/being slightly rude

[–]jmichaelhudsondotnet[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

that is not a case of a person being slightly rude, he told me to jump in front of a train and accused me of being a criminal, and this at the end of a long chain of other personal attacks.

And in the end, the entire thread was erased, and would be forever gone if I hadnt archived it.

So you side with the mods there, you lose my respect. As far as Im concerned I learned throught that this entire site is a shame like all the others. Like always a dozen apologists come out of the woodwork to smooth over the situation and say it didnt happen, so par for the course. Nothing I havent seen before, chalk it up, another drone orbiting the psych op for $.
