What are some things the average person can do to improve the world?
submitted 3 years ago by Aureus from (self.AskSaidIt)
Some of my ideas:
Start a garden
Start a family
Start a business that provides something genuinely valuable
Befriend your neighbors
Attend local town halls
Run for a local office
Boycott companies with bad practices
Support companies with good practices, especially local small businesses
What else?

Stop watching corporate media.

Stop getting news from television, at all.
Documentaries are allowed, in depth, real documentaries. Louis Theroux, Adam Curtis, Frontline are the standard.
The human mind has still not adapted to television, we are like moths to flame, so easily manipulated. The overton window is now an overton pinhole.
reading ftw

It makes me happy to see posts like this. I think just sharing an uplifting attitude and even just a positive personal frame of mind does quite a lot because of ripple effects from that good attitude.
I think "average" people may underestimate how much "average" "mundane" good things matter. Sam was the hero of LOTR, and the most important thing he did was just be a good friend. It seems mundane until it's not anymore because you've lost it sacrificing important things to grasp at some goal (the parable of the ring).
Halfway through writing this reply I decided to call a loved one and I had a nice conversation because of this post, OP.

Doing any drug alone does not improve the world and may make it a worse place.
Also, the police are the primary distributors of lsd now.

-start a static site where you list all of the most important information you have found (see my username site for example)
-write a book (see books linked at my site at leanpub or read at my static site)
-do not use tracking on your static site, no links to corp platforms like instagram or fb
-avoid anyone who is still using fb or google products, tell them you are avoiding them for this reason
-share these memes with everyone so they stop trusting nbc/abc/cbs: https://archive.is/kJKap https://archive.is/blM4a
-stop supporting israel in any way whatsoever
-identify contradictions in your life and stop believing them
-protect your language from degeneration, reject neologisms that make it difficult to agree and easy to argue
-eject anyone from your life who is manipulative and dishonest with you
-see if you can become friends with your neighbors and people who live near you
-be willing to take in a homeless person so they can get on their feet(takes 2 paychecks to get an apartment, so expect 5-6 weeks)
-stop using the word crazy, at all
-stop using a smart phone, they cannot be secured, and especially stop pointing your phone camera at other people, and using your phone in social situations like dinner when you should be interacting with human beings
-realize not everyone who reports being harassed by police and undercovers is crazy, this is real and it is happening to everyone considered to be a leadership or otherwise powerful element in the movement against tyranny and permanent war, and epstein
If you read the memes at my site you will see a lot of suggestions also.
As for myself, I asked myself this question in 2017, and I wrote all of this since then: https://leanpub.com/thebookoflongformremixmemes https://leanpub.com/mentalselfdefense https://leanpub.com/expandeddefinitions https://leanpub.com/fourparables
So I wrote a book about etymology to help repair the english language, a book on how to detect police infiltration and sociopaths, and how to protect your mind in times like this, and a book of memes and a book of short plays to explain these things from a different angle, with pictures and drama. Then I published it all for free on my own site.
And I registered these domains and made sites for them as a form of protest: thesesystemsarefailing.net decultification.org (also @decultification at twitter) globaldebate.net globalrescurehotline.net
And then I am promoting all of these things here, at soylentnews.org, voat.co, minds.com, and putting up with all of the shills and being called crazy. And being silod at twitter and shadowbanned at reddit.
Nearly complete listing of my memes archived links: https://archive.is/hfvoX
Also I have been followed and harassed in the street, bus, train and my car computer was fried without explanation in 2017.
And I am outing numundo.org and affiliated "communities" as being police entrapment operations, which also comes with some risk.
I am facing homelessness because due to my activism and things I write, and the stalking, I am finding it difficult to keep a normal job as this all affects my employers.
That is my level of "what can you do to improve the world". Some of the other responses may want to reconsider their effort level.

Remove beliefs from their being. Go to war against pride and hubris within their selves.
An easy one that no one's mentioned yet that's mutually rewarding: volunteering.
I've volunteered all throughout Uni, at numerous organizations related to my major. The longest one I volunteered at was for a year and a half, and it was a charity that visited children who were sick with cancer or life-threatening diseases in the hospital, and also setup a free camp for them every Summer through fund-raising. Honestly, it was fun and very rewarding to know I was helping make those kids feel better.
For some of the months, I was in the office logging checks and recording donations, others I was at donation events or events hosted for children, setting them up and if they were for the kids, playing with them (once a week we'd have a large room on a hospital floor in the children's hospital, we'd play video and board games with the kids who were feeling well enough to participate). On those days, it only took an hour to two of my time. The office days, I stayed for up to 6 hours sometimes for free.
But they literally wrote me an amazing page and half letter of recommendation that you can tell is not copy and pasted and offered to speak on my behalf at any time in the future on it, and this place including all the others I volunteered at look great on my resume while I'm finishing uni. People always ask "how am I supposed to get two years of experience for an entry-level job out of college?" - this is one way.

What about when your wife is pregnant and asks how she looks? If you say she looks like a fat cow you'd hurt her feelings and make the world a worse place.

One more - support things that are valuable
pay for a good email account, VPN, software
contribute to openstreetmap, wikipedia, or stackoverflow
spend extra time and money going to independent shops with better food
pay for your music. use bandcamp or similar so the band really gets the money.
pay bloggers and poscasters. at least buy a t-shirt.
Another one - start a club. This is surprisingly very easy:
think of something you're interested in
find a forum popular in your area
give people a time and a place to do the thing (or can be a pub just to talk about the thing)
bring a friend with you in case nobody turns up the first couple of times
There are a lot of people just want to go out ad socialise, just doing anything, and are waiting for a club to join.
Talk to strangers.

1-Realize that all we are told and all we are taught - all of it is falsehood and propaganda. 2-Mind your own business.
