I agree.

Most of the civilizations with rules that prevent people became mad, but now, we don't.

Yes, even religion - and I am no big fan of it - has that benefit of curtailing thoughts and impulses as being "forbidden" or "evil". And indeed embracing those leads to insanity.

Religion is not insanity, but it keeps people to have a same idea that can survive. And this idea won't be the idea of Elliot Rodger.
