Vasco da Gama was the greatest Portuguese Navigator. In 1498 he discovered the maritime route from Portugal to India and this route would make the small country of Portugal one of the biggest empires during the Age of discoveries. Vasco da Gama fleet returned to Portugal full of spices and the profit of the journey was more than 6000%. The Whole adventure was immortalized in the Great Epic Poem "The Lusiads" by Camões.
