Naïve art (sometimes called primitivism) is usually defined as visual art created by a person who lacks formal education and training that a professional artist undergoes (in anatomy, art history, technique, perspective, ways of seeing).

Today I learned this term. For lack of this better term, in the animation studios we called it "nephew art", like what you'd hang on your fridge but generally not remotely commercial.

Last year I started a painting that I would consider faux-naïve art, intentionally crude yet commercial in order to try to develop a technique for smashing out art for cash. I got distracted by other projects and such so it remains unfinished. Not only is my meme-like painting more topical than ever in this police state world, the irony is that no one could buy it for what I'd want. Still, it's time to finish it, and some others.
