In short: The war started back in 2014, with the CIA backed coup d'etat and the non stop shelling of ethnic Russians.
And Ethnic Russians were living in Ukraine, because the Russian provinces (and some more) were added to Ukraine during the USSR/CCCP.

The countries around the black sea have a very long cultural history, with various cultures. And Turkey having remains of a culture from 12000 years ago (Gobeki Tepe).
