Are we talking about actual Syrians in Syria, or Middle-Eastern military-aged who claim they are Syrian?

The situation is indeed very complex.
The starvation of Syria is well documented, and became very visible during crop burning.

I am only halfway the interview now, and she talks about how the start of the civil war in Syria is similar to what is now happening in the US. Will there be a civil war just after the elections?

There will be war in Syria until the gas duct is ready to kill Russia's monopoly in Europe.
