I've found it helpful in the past at times. It definitely depends a lot on the therapist, some are absolutely awful and probably do more damage than they prevent. However some are great. Usually the good ones end up just being sounding boards who ask the right questions, to make you discover things about yourself that you hadn't put together yet.

And this is all before considering medication, which is honestly a total crapshoot and can do serious harm.
