The system will continue to be abused as long as we have private prisons and a system that will punish you for the rest of your life for getting into trouble. Recidivism helps to keep lining the pockets of Private prison owners and private prison lobbyists. There is no incentive for the rich to get out of the business of imprisoning their fellow Americans.

I agree, but 95% of prisons are public prisons, and they're still a problem. Prison lobbying is one of the big problems too. The 2-tier justice system is also terrible, many just being able to buy their way out of justice
