I would contend nothing has really changed behind the scenes, except now they're forced to admit what they've already been doing. Reddit is pulling every lever it can to make money, and has been for a while.

This will surely bring some backlash, unfortunately, I still don't see reddit completely dying soon.

Oh I'm sure it'll be around for years to come, but there will be exoduses and eventually reddit will be like myspace and digg

Reddit clones will probably accelerate the process.

Once one of them gets traction, it will be all over.

Agreed. There used to be voat, but then it went super far-right. Then no new alternatives came along for years. Thankfully now there are a lot of competitors.
