50,000 years ago - that's VERY recent for humans... the neanderthals, denisovans, "denisovanX", sapiens and now this new species, all around at the same time.
It beggers the questions about where these people went. We BELIEVE the neanders and denisovans were bred out due to sterile hybrid offspring with humans, but us having their DNA does not denote a certain end for them.
