The upper middle class 20-somethings in and around the Congos, and north, toward Senegal, are dressing like this more often (like the younger guys in the article). I know one of them, who is the son of an ambassador to the US. The clothing, music, food, artwork, and in general - the coulture - is remarkably rich and interesting. Unfortunately, some of the new wealth - especially in the DRC - is thanks to investments from China. But this new kind of power and financial influence in various African countries is increasing the number of middle-class young people who can afford these awesome clothes.
