But why "threatening to release"? Just release it. Reeks of fakery when you dangle like that.

Release, or release not; there is no "we have".

-- Yoda

This endless telegraphing; "we're gonna [semi-specific revelation] real soon now!" is theatrical at best and conspiratorial at worst.

This Hollywood-like hype does nothing to bring justice or harm the criminals. It does:
1. Tip off the bad guys.
2. Give them time to implement disclaimers or diversionary statements.
3. Endanger sources and operatives without tangible effect on the 'enemy'.

Throwing away the element of surprise is rarely a good tactic.

i think its just a form of marketing. hax0r advertising.

we have warez, folks! available to the highest bidder!

simply revealing is like giving it away for free

I hope they've recovered emails from Bin Laden saying "hey you guys got all your insurance stuff ready? We're thinking we'll probably do the thing on the 11th." Because anything less than that, nobody is going to care about. They could uncover a genuine conspiracy and people would just handwave it and disparage anyone who believes it. The people actually involved would jump on with the conspiracy theorists and push more and more wild and outrageous theories until the whole case is entirely discredited in the public eye. That's pretty much how these things go.

Osama Bin Laden's actual quote concerning 9/11: "I am not involved in the 11 September attacks in the United States, as a Muslim I try my best to avoid telling a lie - I had no knowledge of these attacks, nor do I consider the killing of innocent women, children, and other humans an appreciable act! I have already said that we are against the American system, not against its people, whereas in these attacks, the common American people have been killed."

Yeah that's what he said initially but in later videos he claimed credit for it. It was a little strange though how quickly they pointed the finger at him. Like, even being 17 years more advanced in tech it takes years for the FBI to put together enough evidence to ever charge anyone with anything, but they had enough on these goatherders in the middle of buttfucking nowhere to go to war in like 2 weeks? That was odd to me.
