Do gay/ bi men ever question whether their gay love interests are actually gay? by lovelyspearmint in LGBDropTheT

So initially I did read the post as negative and blaming and I thought I was reading too far into it, but you are right. This person can see the problem but he doesn’t want to name the problem. He wants to push an agenda, and he’s a sad individual.

I think the Lesbian and Gay News platform can be saved because the founder is not a radfem and the gay male commentators are not radfem-esque but the founder does need a wakeup call about how this looks and how he would gave more traction if he featured more actual lesbian voices like Julia Ghassan Robertson. The story from Lauren Black was great though because it highlighted the unique issues she experiences that relate to her homosexuality, not just her womanhood.

Dude's not wrong.

I've been in similar arguments on issues relating to Constitutional rights many times over the years. When the government seeks to erode rights, it starts with the undesirables, the people that decent folks are hesitant to speak up for: pedophiles, terrorists, drug dealers.

If rapists don't have the right to free speech, then none of us do.

If rapists don't have the right to a fair trial, then none of us do.

If rapists don't have the right to self-ID as whatever sex they choose, then none of us do.

The problem is, a lot of people will agree with that last one. If #RapistHill is the hill they choose to die on, I doubt there will be a shortage of people willing to accommodate them.

QT: What is woman gender? by Penultimate_Penance in GCdebatesQT

[–]peakingatthemoment 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Obligatory not QT, but trans. I feel like trans is multiple things that all get lumped together so I’m sure people might have different answers. If you have or had dysphoria, that is a mental illness so I’m not sure that we’d have perfectly logical answers. Maybe there are QT people who don’t or didn’t have dysphoria or don’t think it’s mental illness, but I’m not sure if any of the are here

I guess I’ll give two answers, one for the present and one for the past.

  • So current me sees myself as a woman because that’s how I am the world. It’s how people see me, how my body looks, and how people interact with me. I feel like you’d have to really make an effort to maintain some other identity if that is the case. I don’t really think about gender roles as being a reason for me being a woman because even if tried I to behave differently than I am naturally, it probably wouldn’t change how people see me. It’s probably similar to other non-trans people.

  • As a child, I had super strong belief that I was actually a girl or was one inside. I can’t really know why exactly. It could either be something I was born with or something that developed from being an feminine gay boy in an environment where that wasn’t an acceptable thing to be (maybe more likely). It wasn’t something anyone could get me to let go of (and various therapists and family tried for year, my family eventually support it when I was a teenager). Looking back, I feel like it had to do with feminine gender roles fitting me better, feeling uncomfortable with masculine parts of my body, feeling uncomfortable dressing like a boy, and fitting in better and feel more comfortable socially as a girl. I felt really strongly about all those things and, in my mind, it meant to me I was actually a girl. I feel like it’s mental illness though because I wasn’t a girl, I was a boy, but I couldn’t be convinced otherwise and persisted in that belief until after I was an adult.

Aether

https://getaether.net/docs/how_is_it_different_from/

I like their "Real Prime Directive":

Act fast and chomp down on posts that just haven't gotten the basic idea.

Why? Vast majority of people are genuinely good, pleasant humans. But a very small number of misbehavers can make any place not so great, even when almost all of the people in the place is still well-meaning.

Vast majority of people also have no concept of just how much effort and vigilance it takes to keep a community a pleasant place, or how efficiently an awful post can ruin a lot of people's days. The work you do is valuable.

Aether attempts to fix that by making your actions visible, and in the front and center. People will see just how much work you're doing to keep your corner of the world an enjoyable place.

What is BPF's stance on "The Nordic Model", i.e. selling sex is legal for prostitutes but buying sex is illegal for johns? by _Moon_ in BPF

[–]storyendingnever 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Agreed. Needs to go further. I'm fine with execution for all johns (it's rent-a-rape - not 'sex work') and all the john's assets should be put into a fund to help runaway girls and trafficked women get on their feet and trained for real work, so they don't have to resort to being raped for money.

I'll bet even with the Nordic model, many if not most women still fall through the cracks. How many resources go towards policing johns? How many men are not convicted due to loopholes, money, good connections or pleading ignorance? How much prostitution is under the radar and can't be policed?

Initially, when I became more aware of all of this I had assumed they took both. They prescribe us both to decrease the same risks with hormonal contraceptives, so I thought it was weird that they wouldn't have an arsenal. I would have thought the whole process would have been more intricate, honestly. Since it's a cycle involving estrogen, progesterone, FSH and LH too, it would have made sense to me to try to replicate all of that (assuming testes have gone to ball heaven). Since physiology is still male though, I guess that all the other shit going on surrounding those hormones won't work the way they would in women anyway though.

It was only once ibuprofen became OTC that the 200mg dosage & wider spacing became the norm. The max daily intake is supposed to be 3200mg, but some doctors used to advise much more. For a lot of drugs, the Rx versions & OTC versions are differently dosed & administered.

Since gender ideology is logically incoherent, it seems to me that 80% of people who believe it do so because it's emotionally satisfyingly to them somehow. And believing this out of love for your sibling... I mean, as emotional reasoning goes, that's pretty unshakable.

Yes, but there's a lot of confusion about biology about these days & women's bodies specifically. So for clarity's sake, I pedantically throw my two cents in. Censorshipment was talking about the hormonal changes that occur girls & women over the course of the menstrual cycle. I was just pointing out that even without a uterus, women can still experience these changes.

Just like many people nowadays use the word vagina to refer to the vulva, lots of people assume hysterectomy involves removal of the uterus and the ovaries. When, in fact, lots of women who have hystos keep one or both ovaries.

I also think that part of the obsession with female hairlessness has to do with making us ever more naked. What do you do to someone who you want to humiliate and degrade? You strip them of their clothes. Make women about as exposed as is publicly decent but even when we're naked it is not enough. So what do you do to someone you’ve stripped who you want to humiliate and degrade even more? You shave them. You remove even their natural covering and leave them literally as defenseless as a baby. It is about being made as naked, as vulnerable, as exposed, physically and emotionally, as possible so that we are marked as degraded and made more easily consumed and digested.

Except libido can determine whether you look at someone and feel an urge to become sexual with them. If you're horny af, then you might look at all sorts of people and feel an urge to have sex with them, but if your libido is low for whatever reason, then you may be able to look at your own romantic and sexual partner without being capable of feeling the urge to have sex with them. Those characteristics are all connected and influece each other, you can't cut out one thing to say is sexuality and absolutely nothing else is.

Yep, I've definitely thought about this before. I've thought about survival vs living vs thriving, and what each of those things mean. I don't think it is possible for a woman to thrive in this world. That is all about quality of life and self-actualizing. I don't think you can do that as long as males exist. If you ally yourself with males, you may be able to 'live' if you are lucky, but you've basically pledged yourself to catering to his needs, which means you can't possibly self-actualize. He can, but you can't. And if you are a separatist, you are ALWAYS going to remain in survival mode unless you are a psychopathic narcissist and can just take what you want without giving a shit about the 'objects' around you.

anything that breathes life is feminine, like a sigh upon awakening

So breathing & sighing are "feminine" now? Does this mean yawning & snoring are "masculine." C'mon, you can't be serious, LOL. Everybody breathes. Like everybody hurts. https://youtu.be/5rOiW_xY-kc

Seriously, what is meant by "breathes life"? Is it like giving or getting CPR - aka "the breathe of life"?

The idiom "breathes life into" means "bring new ideas & energy into something." But that's not something only associated with female people, nor is it considered "feminine."

Are you talking about ancient mythology where certain deities were said to have "breathed life" into clay to make other gods & humans? True, Isis was a female deity. But pretty sure Prometheus was a guy. IIRC, in origin stories from various cultures, most deities who were said to have been able to "breathe life" or make the wind do so were male.

Or by "breathes life" are you making a reference to childbirth? Sorry, but while childbirth is fundamentally female, it's not very "feminine." Women do use breathing techniques to help us get through labor & birth, but we don't bring new life into the world by breathing. We do it it by pushing, sweating & experiencing intense physical pain. It's bloody hard work & what comes out of our mouths in the process is mostly grunts, shouts, cries & a whole lot of foul curse words.

BTW, turns out "breathe life" is a phrase lots of guys who would be considered "masculine" like to use, LOL:

https://youtu.be/ZqtvrsNLFMs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKAWxt34EQw

https://www.breathelife.com/about-us

And funny thing, lots of other guys whom no one would describe as "feminine" are big into the breathe thing too:

https://youtu.be/MxMuR5Ly4x8

https://youtu.be/ZZ5a4il8A7M

https://youtu.be/Eo-UKCxCglg

https://youtu.be/D6gYB7jYW-o

OK, I'll stop now. In turn, please stop coming up with new ways of sex stereotyping. And please stop attributing & associating human activities & qualities to my sex. I find it objectionable & "othering." Like saying women are "limitless, formless."

https://www.spiked-online.com/2020/03/09/international-womens-day-is-no-longer-about-women/

I find it oppressive too. All the ideas about what's "feminine" were invented & imagined by males & projected onto the female sex in order to sexualize, subordinate, pigeonhole & restrict us.

Moreover, preoccupation with what's "feminine" & "masculine" is the source of problems & distress that those of you who suffer from "gender dysphoria" feel; it's not the cure. Far better, IMO, to get away from sex stereotypes rather than to breathe new life into them. In fact, dispensing with sexist sex stereotypes used to be a principal aim of feminists & progressive men.

Thank you & I apologize for ribbing you.

BTW, here's an art rock classic from my fave band, Roxy Music, where Bryan Ferry in his best weird & creepy persona says, "my breath is inside you." But he's talking about a blow-up sex doll from yesteryear & the song is about male loneliness & alienation in modern-day life.

A few years ago, I have seriously contemplated suicide but, well, here I am. On the one hand, I think that I'll never really have the guts to really do it - on the other hand, the thought of being able to end it all is strangely comforting. And sometimes I feel like suicide almost is an act of resistance, like escaping from a prison, from a prison planet.

I love this paragraph - I couldn't have said it better myself. I've had that exact feeling many times. If I could have one wish in life, it would be to know the date of my death. I would love to know how much time I had left so that I could avoid wasting time on things that make me suffer. And to be honest, I'd be super thrilled if I only had 2 years left - I would spend it having the most fucking awesome time possible and not waste it looking for unsatisfying, abusive work conditions so that I can prolong the shittiness.

In every culture, religion, corner of the world, suffering is mandatory, often touted as 'brave' or 'character-building', and sometimes even fetishized. That is life under men. And the idea that you are weak if you want to escape it is just incomprehensible. And I know this is everywhere, but if you look at American tv/film (aka propaganda), for example, it is astounding how much anti-suicide and can't-let-them-die-even-if-they-end-up-helpless (esp. in medical dramas) bullshit is peddled. The hilarious part about the anti-suicide movement is that it is a mindfucking catch-22. If you want to die, you are mentally ill, and if you are mentally ill, you are not competent to make life-death decisions. So in their logic, only a mentally healthy person should be allowed to make the decision to end their life, but they wouldn't choose to do it because they are mentally healthy. I laugh my ass off (in an angry way?) when I run across that.

The thing I spend time thinking about is: why do strangers who have nothing to gain from you staying alive spend so much time trying to force you to be around? Why are people so invested in making everyone endure suffering? As much as I am mostly disgusted by the human race, I can't imagine wanting to force someone into long-term suffering. For those who are dangers (aka rapists) to society (and by society, I mean women and girls), I am perfectly okay with just ending them. But the cruelty in the name of morality or whatever, I just don't get it.
