Bombadil's key argument seems to be that CO2 absorption only occurs in band that are too narrow to cause global warming.

The third time I linked to the same graph of how significant the 600-750 waves per centimeter band is with respect to blocking the earth's radiative emissions, he noped out without addressing the comment.

Other arguments he tried:

CO2 is only 480 ppm, so it can't have a greenhouse effect.

I've heard this argument before. I pointed out that it was 3 trillion tonnes of the stuff, and he didn't go back to that argument.

CO2 gives off the same energy that it absorbs, for a zero-sum change.

I didn't pull him up for it being untrue, because I thought that it was mostly true at the time. It turns out that the excited CO2 molecule in the atmosphere will have interactions with several other molecules before emitting the photon. Carbon Dioxide Absorbs and Re-emits Infrared Radiation, and so often passes the energy to the surrounding air.

But in any case it slows the rate of propagation of those frequencies to the upper atmosphere where they have to get to to get to space. Here's the old realclimate post on the topic

It was important to him that clouds act as a greenhouse gas.

While this is wrong (The net effect of clouds is to cool Earth by 18 W m⁻² in the global mean), I still don't understand why it falsehood was important to him.

There have always been clouds, so it's not clear how global warming denial is supported by whatever their impact is on the climate.

So I don't know where he was going with this. One argument I have seen in the past is that Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCRs) seed cloud formation, and perhaps he was going to head for the (incorrect) trope that there has been a trend in GCRs.

I reckon it's more the internet than gaming so much. People have been saying for decades really that whatever hobby the youth are in is some fantastic escape from reality like with comic books or video games or cinema. I think that's true to an extent but a bit of escapism can be healthy, when it becomes the driving force in ones life though that tends to be a problem. And I think what you see now is that while nerds or geeks or whatever you want to call the people totally obsessed with fiction, It's more the internet and the fake kind of online community these can create that can fully divorce someone from reality if they literally spend all their time in it.

Why that manifests into the trans phenomenon is kind of interesting I think as there's a lot of intersection between fiction and trans stuff online. Twenty or 30 years ago it was a pretty common trope in children's shows to do a "walk in someone else's shoes" type episode where some kid is like "girls are stupid and dumb" gets zapped by magic and had to be a girl for a day or something. I reckon those triggered some deeply buried desires in some segment of the population but back then nobody would talk about such things until the internet allowed for these people to find each other.

I suspect it's the unhealthy desire for something that you can never have that causes the most damage though. I can somewhat understand how some kid with a shitty life, girls especially, night think "if only I was born a boy I wouldn't have problems" but when you tell them "oh you actually can be a boy" rather than having a long talk about what exactly their problems are and how to go about fixing them in a proactive matter I think that is unhealthy.

I think it's like, these people are kinda entitled and haven't learned to dump that attitude. The world owes me X but I don't get it because I'm not a boy, so I will become a boy and the world still owes me X.

But like boy or girl a shitty attitude and bad approach to life isn't going to get you very far. So I think what happens is they alienate everyone in their friend circles and families until finally their whole life is just in these online echo chambers, those will eventually decide that for whatever reason you aren't welcome there anymore as such toxic spaces go (gay white men are the cis het white male or the LGBT shit) because the whole attitude is basically like, attack everyone until they cave. But irl people respond by just ignoring them unless they are the easily dragged into arguments type.

Of course, reddit has a ton of trans identifying mods. I think it's because in general the useless trancels of the world can only pass on the internet and then spend an inordinate amount of time there. Lust for the power of a mod position and brutally shut down anything they don't like.
