“You think about what Pride has become in Philadelphia for instance – the streets are being flooded with alcohol or corporate sponsorships, and over-the-top performances,” Stephens wrote. “This is all a facade that is hiding a lot of pain that our community is still dealing with. While we party, some people can’t even afford to get into the events. While we’re partying and celebrating, there are people who are living at or under the poverty line, who are suffering with all sorts of inequities in every key area of our lives. That’s a problem, and we’re not addressing that in a way that I and other people are deeming appropriate.”

Another thing to add to the pile of things we as gay people in a lgb rights movement have to fix, poverty.

I feel that too many are just too far from saying I do not care if something is racist, that it not that they are trying trying to divide us, but trying to keep us together.

A bicycle is any cycle that identifies as having two wheels. A unicycle is any cycle that identifies as having only one wheel. Most cycles don’t feel any disconnect between the number of wheels they were manufactured with and the number of wheels they identify as having.

Also- cycles are a spectrum, there’s not just those two cycles. There are also tricycles and quads and even bicycles with training wheels- none of them should be excluded from this discussion.

We should also make sure to note that there are many ways to be a bicycle- there are road bikes, tandem bikes, mountain bikes, electric bikes (to name a few, there are several more) and they are all valid.

It's possible the communication manager is at odds with actual executives in charge of decision making at the Royal Academy and that's what caused this, or that the Royal Academy indeed doesn't give a fuck about de Wahls and is in legal damage control mode. Either way, this dude's an idiot and should never work as a comms manager for a company again, ever.

It's interesting how all these hyper aggressive ideas that bisexuals have are never pushed against heterosexuals. The writer is a bisexual and thinks this is about her personal dating life and drama (a particular user here has those same beliefs) and in no way tied to actual, legitimate human rights.

She quotes a professor who i looked up (who happens to be a huge clown..and also a bisexual) who claims coming out is wrong because it heavily relies on and has the heritage of "homosexuals" coming out and homosexuality doesnt really exist because it historically never existed as a category (it's a social construct). And the concept of coming out doesnt serve bisexuals and the 300 other letters within the community because it's not about them and they're just sO FluId so "coming out" would mean they were lying all along!

Everything she says is correct if you see gays/lesbians and their identities and their communities as nothing more than a dating/sex scene that emerged for the benefit of others (we all know a particular user here that does believes this) instead of a 600 year struggle. Her vapid analysis doesnt even begin to scratch the surface of who and what gays/lesbians are. Yes... red is a social construct. Doesnt mean atoms dont reflect certain frequencies of light.

Homosexuals are a social construct but we can practice her ideas and go back to the utopia when everyone was "fluid"..which was medieval times. Homosexuality was an act and heterosexuality was a union. Homosexuality was grouped with beastiality, rape, domination, pedophilia and heterosexuality was an act you did before your god and empire. And she is correct, plenty of people trashed homosexuality as an act because of how their minds worked. I think we've all met them before. Hmmmm, i wonder what name we would give them today for their depraved sex acts: "im a bisexual but i can have no romantic or emotional bonds with the same sex. I love the opposite sex and want to start a family with them and pour all my love into this relationship but sometimes i like indulging in my fetish for the same sex and im valid!". And people wonder why homosexuality got such a bad reputation in those days and christians are convinced gays/lesbians are incapable of emotional bonds. So yes, we were all "blended" as a community and look where it got us. If we dont separate ourselves from these people, they'll end up ruining everything we worked for.

Gay/Lesbian love builds our community, not sex. And if you dont think people like this are dangerous, look up the bisexual professor's essays on why gays/lesbians dont need equal marriage rights.

And the comments are laughable as well. "This professor is sooo right! im a woman married to a man and sometimes i feel fluid so coming out of the closet feels like i was deceiving people but i didnt know i was bi until i was 30!". OK? So what? People like her dont build or create or sacrifice. It's the people who had to "come out" that built the spaces she feels should accommodate her.

However we cannot escape the fact that, generally, it is cis gay identities and not the vast spectrum of queer identities which have been given the biggest platform. "Coming out as a singular process," writes Suzanna, "depended on the establishment of a gay identity and a gay movement to make it happen." In other words, for the coming out narrative to be successful, you need the category of 'the homosexual' – and while we may imagine that to have always existed, it’s very much a 20th century phenomenon. As Suzanna writes: "As many historians and theorists have convincingly argued, the homosexual as a distinct category, a demarcated identity (rather than, say, a set of possible sexual acts or preferences) is a very modern invention, as is the heterosexual."

The narrowness of the concept of coming out and the language we use to describe it means it is no longer politically useful or reflective of the spectrum of identities that make up the LGBTQIAA+ community

Gay people have to "come out" if we want to live our lives openly and date or have sex or find a long-term partner! As a lesbian, if I stay closeted, I either have to hide my girlfriend and our relationship or I have to stay single, same for gay men. Because straight is the default in society. Nothing changes if you "stay in the closet" as a demisexual greyace pansexual transfemme, to your relationships (family, friends, coworkers, community), dating or sex life. You just show the world your raging narcissism.

Coming out and Pride are for same-sex attracted people! Lesbians, gays and bisexuals. Not straight people lacking personalities.

Articles like this should be the canary in the coalmine and should peak the fuck out of LGB people.

Philly Pride Presents had recently been under intense scrutiny, starting with backlash from a June 10 Facebook post about the history of the Stonewall Riots which contained language including “those dressed as women,"

Seriously, imagine generating backlash over a statement like "drag queens are men, usually gay men, who dress and perform as women". This is an accurate statement. But because the trans community insists on the lie that Stonewall was started by someone black and trans as a way of crafting a false hero for people to have to worship, truth is being labelled as bigotry. It's insane.

I'm a realist and an optimist too, yet I can clearly see ample hope and realized opportunity for our species. It's not unrealistic to remind yourself that eucatastrophe is our ultimate end, not existential dread and defeat. That is what being an optimist and a realist really means. It means never giving up on the reality of the cosmos and the laws that govern it, and knowing full well your place in things, and finding hope in your place.

There is plenty of hope for our kind, chances are slim for them. Never forget this. If there was only one unconquered human on this Earth, then our kind would still have better chances for success than them. This is the fact of the cosmos: life-affirmation will always defeat life-negation. What you seem confused over is the amount of time it takes for this victory to actualize itself. Sure, things are tight right now, and they've been tight all these past centuries, but that has no bearing on the actual ending of this story. The ending is one of truth, life, and just completion. That is nature.

What they are trying to do is untenable for nature to hold up forever. It has to end, and since our species has created strong rebellious figures and continues to do so, I foresee it ending with us. Whatever is happening on this planet is coming to a close, and the life-affirming reality that is around the corner can be clearly seen and felt. Indeed, religious folks of all cultures have been arguing over this eventuality for all of recorded history. It has been felt by the sensitive for thousands of years, and they never gave up hope. I stand with them, those humans of the past who never allowed for an inch of despair into their perspectives. Life should give you endless amounts of hope, unless something is wrong with you, at which point you should realize what's happening and recapitulate the lessons of eucatastrophe back into your life.

I've not watched it fully in a linear fashion, just skipped around to listen to various bits. Kate from the LGBA really came out guns blazing! Jonny was pretty good too.

Not sure it will change anything as the parting remarks by Jan don't seem to acknowledge the validity of other views especially the gay men and lesbians who spoke about the redefining of sexuality.

Agreed; the TQ+ community takes for granted how much progress has been made in North America and Europe and acts as if there's no importance to campaigning for LGB causes any more. The reality is that there are many parts of the world like Russia that are still not LGB friendly whatsoever, and that where being killed for being gay or lesbian is a very real possibility.

I don't think we will fully be able to see and comprehend the societal damage the TQ+ movement has caused to LGB until decades later. I am truly scared our progress on social issues has hit a major setback with the rise of trans activism infecting and demanding it control every single LGB space.

Two wrongs don't make a right. You don't enact divisive racial policies as a cure for racism enacted by entirely different people. They're right that Martin Luther King Jr. would find this ridiculous and not just ineffective at ending racism, it would rather exacerbate tensions by encouraging people to perpetually milk money out of cries of racism.

And let's be honest; the only caucasian people who'd even think about attending and paying this fee are wokesters. This means that this fee punishes people who likely aren't racist, with the sins of people who are racist, without ever addressing the root causes of societal inequality (poverty, mostly) at the government level.

It's an incredibly myopic thing to do that will in no way address racism whatsoever.

She's probably focused on real life or mostly interacting with BPF posters privately. I don't think it's much of a cause for concern because we tend to recycle the same topics sometimes. Though after being blackpilled beyond what most people would ever find acceptable, I still feel like we still have further to go. Eventually we might venture beyond anything resembling female-centered discourse, but the ultimate blackpill is that it is hopeless for everything and everybody. It encompasses all.

It's really shocking and sad how we've now got this idea that everyone must give personal venmo handouts as penance for stuff their ancestors did to someone else's ancestors. It's such an idiotic idea, not to mention incredibly half-assed compared to actually doing something that benefits society as a whole like working towards an equitable country for all with strong societal protections for everyone (nordic model countries are a role model here).

Martin Luther King Jr. would be rolling in his grave if he saw how everyone now thinks these shitty instant gratification measures somehow fight racism.

The battle between the two Americas

In recent history, the United States has arguably never been so divided — but not in the way you might think. Yes, the country has been split by the culture wars, with their polarising focus on race and gender. But behind the scenes, another conflict has been brewing; shaped by the economics of class, it has created two Americas increasingly in conflict.

The First America is made up of the highly educated and affluent, who have already managed to recover their pandemic-depleted incomes. Its biggest winners, though, have been large tech firms — notably Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Google — who together have added more than two and a half trillion dollars to their valuation since 2019, and last year enjoyed record breaking profits.

In contrast, the Second America, made up of the working and private-sector middle classes, has been devastated by the pandemic, with more than half of small businesses unlikely to fully recover. Meanwhile, the expanding serf class, many of whom were employed in small businesses, has become increasingly dependent on handouts from Washington and bloated state governments, so much so that it has made little sense for many to go back to work.

At stake, increasingly, is the future of America as an aspirational country. Traditionally, the growing gap between the rich and the other classes would be fodder for a Left-wing bonfire, but the progressive Left now gets much of its funding from the corporate elite, notably Silicon Valley and Wall Street. The oligarchy not only funded Biden’s campaign, but, particularly in the case of Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, leant critical support to boost the November electoral turnout.

Taking on the oligarchy, therefore, has not been Biden’s priority, at least to date. Rather than focus on traditional working-class concerns, he has been swept up by the cultural memes of the HR departments, newsrooms and faculty lounges. The results have been all too predictable: draconian energy policies, the racialisation of education and support for public sector unions, the one arguably working-class bastion for the Democrats.

There are probably more people on this planet who qualify for My 600-lb Life than people who qualify as genuine BPF. I don't think feminism is a useful term to describe this ideology anymore. Feminism became obsolete to me before I even discovered this community, but what would be an apt term to replace it? Blackpill sociology/anthropology? Because blackpill efilism is somewhat tautological.

There must be other blackpill variants of various political groups too. Blackpill socialism is obvious enough even among and beyond their adherents, and there is something of a discourse regarding afropessimism. I'm really curious, however, to know what a blackpilled manifestation of a right-wing ideology would look like.

Anyone more versed in US law able to shed some light on the legality of this? I'm sure this is very unlikely to be a Supreme Court issue since it's just going to be some nutters in a tent in Seattle, but differential, race-based pricing doesn't seem very constitutional to me...

This casual erasure of the female sex and casually defining women is if men were the default is incredibly sexist and irritating.

This is so ludicrous that it's like you're trying to undermine anyone who criticizes Nazis.

Not happening.

You're right about TAM's identity. It's up to reality to decide what it is.

It's their life, not ours. (And why should anyone give a damn about the private lives of others. We're not living in a reality TV similation.)

Anyway, I think TAM and company have largely succeeded with their plans for saidit.

Why do so many on Saidit LOVE to select hidden causes or conspiracies for relatively obvious events (and I like conspiracy studies, if there is sufficient reliable evidence)? Anyone following their approaches (including M7, D3 and Fred) knew very well that they were genuinely devoted to supporting Saidit, at great expense. That said, I wonder if they know that most right-wing folks will never accept them for who they want to be. What annoys me the most - as a writer - is the use of they/them for singlular pronouns. Really pisses me off. Young whippersnappers changing hundreds of years of language. Who do they think they are? Really.

I wouldn't be so quick to burn bridges. It's possible there's multiple groups of people in charge of the decision making at the Royal Academy and there was an intervention by the higher ups about what their correct position was. The initial cries of transphobia may have come from someone with the Royal Academy who had access to their social media accounts, but less authority in terms of decision making.

They fucked up, and admitted they fucked up. This is progress as far as I'm concerned, we're headed in the right direction.

A unicycle has one wheel and a bicycle has two. If you take one wheel off a bicycle, it doesn't turn into a unicycle, it's just a broken bicycle. If you graft a second wheel onto a unicycle somewhere, it doesn't turn into a bicycle, it's just a unicycle with some odd decor. Can you define the difference between a bicycle and a unicycle?

I've been doing this for a few weeks. Buy a bag of unbleached white flour. Get two of those little packets of yeast for a bunch of experiments.

Sprinkle some yeast in 1/4 cup of warm water in a big steel bowl. Let it sit for a few minutes. Start dumping in flour.

How much flour how much water? A touch of water and a lot of flour.

Mix that sucker with a chopstick or a spatula (I actually use the chopstick) until you get dough.

Keep mixing. Don't stop....keep going. Keep mixing. I know, just keep going. I know. A little more, OK, enough.

Let it sit covered in 'not so' airtight bowl. This is called proofing, it lets the yeast rise. -an hour or two more or less

Beat the shit out of the dough. I know, just keep doing it. Keep going. Yeah roll, fold, slap, whatever.

Let it rest. gluten something or other.

Bake 350F less than 30 minutes.

Cool.

Bread.
