The woman featured can no longer breastfeed due to injury and her newborn as well as countless others need formula. Their mothers need pads. No, there is not a reasonable chance Hamas fashions pads and similac into a wartime weapon. These things only help women and children, all noncombatants.

Which makes it a feminist issue. Which can be discussed here. We do not censor content just because it concerns Palestine.

No reason? There are millions of reasons! Frequently the reasons are exchanged as a piece of rectangular paper that have faces of former presidents printed onto them. Generally, these "reasons" are exchanged for goods and services.

In fact I'm surprised the Trump administration hasn't created a law that mandates the replacing of all circulating bills with new ones that have his face printed on them. Maybe when he secures his third term in office, they can get working on that.

As for the general public, now they can go back to using the "free" tax filing services from the big companies that are full of dark patterns and impossible to find.

Energy conservation and Poynting's theorem in the homopolar generator | American Journal of Physics Most familiar applications of Poynting's theorem concern stationary circuits or circuit elements. Here, authors apply Poynting's theorem to the homopolar generator, a conductor moving in a background magnetic field. They show that the electrical power produced by the homopolar generator equals the power lost from the deceleration of the rotating Faraday disk due to magnetic braking and review the way that magnetic braking arises within Poynting's theorem.

Probably an attempt to weaponize the illegals enmasse

The Democrats were quite blatant about trying to establish illegals as the foundation of a new "Forever Blue" voting base with the policies that they constantly pushed to get them in, keep them in, and provide them support. So weaponizing them against the current administration is hardly a stretch. Especially not when you recall all of those suspiciously "spontaneous" and destructive protests that kept cropping up during Trump's first term, where a whole bunch of other groups and causes were similarly turned to disruptive protests.

(Because, really, if those protests were supposedly in response to deep-seated and fundamental parts of America's racism/fascism/whatever, how did those issues just suddenly not exist during the four years that Biden was doddering his way through leading the country?)

"Ukrainian soldiers say that 60-year-old German tanks have proven more capable in fighting Russia's forces than their modern replacements."

It's been argued that most Germans worth their salt died defending their country from invasion in WWII,
or, not to be captured, committed suicide, or were murdered by occupation forces.

The rest (to survive and to have careers under foreign occupation)
allowed themselves to become brainwashed drones,
and, after so many decades of this, they can now no longer really think,
other than as US/NATO woke vassals.

And, to complete the destruction of the German people, and, certainly, its spirit,
what increasingly passes for 'German' today is some amalgam of non-German Nigerians, Turks, Pakis, etc.,
which have been steadily been imported into Germany (and the rest of Europe) ... with the consent of collaborationist politicians.

And we're surprised that current 'German' tanks are not as good as they used to be. :/

A nation is not just geography.

A nation is its people.

If you moved the Zimbabweans into Germany and (any remaining actual) Germans into Zimbabwe,
Zimbabwe would become civilised and Germany would become a primitive barbarous shithole ...

But this article is not referring to the average Israeli who does national service. For example, Meta’s AI policy chief Shira Anderson was not eligible for national service as an American, but she volunteered to join the army. Others are members of the elite Unit 8200 propaganda unit.

The sky is brighter than astronomers imagined about study The missing light of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field

The deepest of the Hubble deep fields, the Ultra Deep Field and the eXtreme Deep Field, famously show compact, luminous galaxies amidst a sea of total darkness: a now-familiar sight. But much of the actual starlight had been oversubtracted as part of the field-flattening method used. When a proper reanalysis is conducted, the light is preserved, showing that the sky is brighter than anyone realized.

If a cylindrical condenser is placed in a uniform magnetic field with lines of induction parallel to its axis, and is short-circuited and rotated, together with the short-circuiting wire, about this axis, it becomes charged to a potential difference equal to the motional electromotive force in the wire, or the rate at which the wire cuts magnetic flux. If, however, the condenser and wire are fixed and the agent producing the magnetic field rotates, the relative motion being the same as before, the condenser does not become charged, as was proved1 by precise experiment in 1912. This is the first case in electromagnetic induction in which the observed effect does not depend entirely on the relativity of the motion.

Can Earth’s rotation generate power? Physicists divided over controversial claim (archive)

As Earth rotates and part of its magnetic field remains static (at least according to a 1912 proof), a conductor on its surface would move through some components of the field. Experiments suggest that an unusual magnetic material can help harness energy from the planet’s rotation. But not everyone is convinced.

The rotational kinetic energy of our planet is 1/5 M * R2 * w2 with (approximately) M = 6e34 kg, R = 6.3e6m, w = 7.4e-5 rad/s, which gives approximately 5e36 joules. Yearly we need roughly 316 Wh. If the technique provided all of Earth’s electricity needs, which was around 11 trillion watts in 2022, this would slow the planet’s spin by 7 milliseconds over the next century, the authors calculate. This is similar to the change in speed caused by natural phenomena such as the Moon’s pull and changing dynamics inside the planet’s core.

For instance Jeener claims to prove that no such effect is possible. But this conclusion results from a failure to recognize a distinction between the corotation with Earth of the nonaxially symmetric components of Earth’s magnetic field and the nonrotation with Earth of the axially symmetric components. Because the distinction has considerable empirical support, Jeener’s argument is likely incorrect.

Carlo Rovelli, a theoretical physicist from Aix-Marseille University in France, is more open to the idea. He notes that energy is conserved for an electric charge moving in a uniform magnetic field, which seems to rule out the effect. But since the charges in the experiments are moving in a solid material, Rovelli says, this argument is not relevant.

Meanwhile, authors have found in the laboratory that Mn-Zn ferrites material—appear to be photoactive, so that experiments must be protected from light. Worse, Mn-Zn ferrites have very high Seebeck coefficients, and laboratory temperature gradients easily overwhelm or cancel (depending on orientation) the sought-after effect. Reliable results therefore require either isothermal conditions or that temperatures at both ends of the Mn-Zn cylindrical shell be measured simultaneously with the emf, in order to control for the Seebeck voltage.

The researchers replicated these effects in a different setting with a largely unregulated environment, a residential building 5.5 kilometers east of their primary lab. They also found that a solid bar of manganese-zinc ferrite did not display these effects, nor did a metal tube with different magnetic and electrical properties display these findings.

Notably, the team says the device stopped generating power when its orientation was changed in relation to the Earth’s magnetic field. “The voltage is 0 when the device is oriented with its long axis in the E-W direction and -18 microvolts when the device is oriented with the “red” end toward the north (we call this the 0 degree orientation),” Chyba explained, “but +18 microvolts when the “red” end is oriented toward the south (the 180 degree orientation).

The largest initial expense was for the three battery-operated data-logging digital multimeters, which the professor said cost about $1,500 each in 2016. The battery-operated meters would log data for five to ten hours per experimental run, with the experimenter typically returning around eight hours afterward to turn the lights on and log the data. “I think the total expense to reproduce (or rebut) this experiment today would be under $10,000,” Chyba estimated. See also:

Attempting to Extract Power from Earth’s Rotation: A Failed Experimental Test. Rinke Wijngaarden, a retired physicist, failed to find the same effect during his own 2018 experiments. In a story about the team’s latest findings, Wijngaarden told Nature that he has followed the research since 2016, and although he thinks their new device is interesting, he is “still convinced that the theory…cannot be correct.

Yeah. Discord is more like just live chatting like Twitter is. Plus the need to either check their own app vs simply opening up a new tab in safari iOS. It’s not the ideal form for long term or long form discussion.

Regarding clovenhooves, I have not yet observed a conservative leaning opinion and would probably not be stanning the case for Nancy Mace as a feminist over there. Not that I think she is one.

The invites are out to the cekni creators to recruit. They as well as these discords will need more than just them as a recruitment feed, and we remain available as a recruitment tool. This is as easy as saying, hi, I’m x, here is my forum, here is what you need to do to get accepted either in public or via dm.

Discord is not for me. I've found that live chats like discord are ultimately more about socializing, and discussion forums live ovarit/saidit are more about, well, discussion. That probably sounds pretentious as fuck but I'm not knocking socializing. I just prefer to get that in person for the most part. I go to internet forums to discuss topics in a way that I can't necessarily or reliably do irl.

I wonder what the purpose of the clovenhooves application process is. A lot of the questions are ideological; are they trying to screen out people who disagree with them? That's my assumption. But who knows, maybe they're curating a philosophically diverse space or maybe they are just trying to deter the kinds of people who don't want to bother with applications. Can anyone speak to this? Do they reject sincere but different-minded applicants?

Cekni seems nice but I don't think it will last.

Thanks. The whole point of the rules relaxation isn’t so people can promiscuously use certain terms. It’s so that women can speak freely as to what public figures say in public and so as to give latitude to the one off making a joke/pun without the whole convo being dumped.

We already have the saidit site restriction on having to open another tab to refresh to even post content that takes more than a minute or two to write. This is a Sitewide decision we can do shit about, and it means ppl have to take extra effort already. If there’s a “trannysorus” dropped into convo it well may be that the user will be asked to rephrase as you’ve seen above. The point is that whole convos won’t get deleted bc of a one off that is not habitual.

My purpose here is to encourage gc feminists to speak freely, develop or evolve their rep so that other users feel freer to invite them from here as with ovarit, create other subs here and so on.

Ukraine's $500 billion rare earths scam: they don't exist, and we should know better. by [deleted] in For_Slavs

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Reports that Ukraine will pledge its vast reserves of rare earth metals and other strategic minerals in exchange for hundreds of billions of dollars worth of loan forgiveness and additional aid have supply chain managers perplexed.

No honest assessment of Ukraine's mineral assets comes anywhere close to the numbers that top government officials claim. The US Geological Survey, and even publications from Ukraine's ministries report only trace amounts of rare earth metals anywhere in the country.

Even were we only to consider non-rare earths, other problems become apparent. Many of those reserves are in Russian hands, and much of the rest can not be commercially mined at current market prices.

The situation in Ukraine is alarmingly similar to Afghanistan, where Pentagon assessments of Afghan mineral reserves dramatically overstated their actual size and market value, while giving war planners additional time and resources to prosecute what was ultimately a losing war effort.
