Part of why the cloudflare check is as bad as it is stems from the fact that if you don't protect your instance from DDOS, cloudflare drops you as a customer. So basically "use our DDOS guard, or we drop you as a customer!" Why? Mostly business costing. If you're big enough to have the kind of website traffic that looks like a DDOS, then they want to charge you more than their cheapest tier, but they can't say "Hey, you're successful, give us our cut" because then you look like Unity.
