After WWII, Japan analyzed the true reasons for the Manchurian Incident of 1931, the spark that touched off the war in Asia. Japan acquired interests in Manchuria as a result of the Russo-Japanese War. The new government of China ceased to recognize those interests and began to shut Japan out.
