[–]xandit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm ok with pride parades, it's not a march anymore, but more like a gay themed festival, which is more a sign of progress than anything else. I remember marching in one in NYC for what was the 25th, I think, anniversary of stonewall. Turning by the U.N. and then staring down a huge avenue of LGB people, I remember it affected me greatly to see us in such huge numbers, and perhaps for younger people having pride would still help them in some way. I don't remember crazy clothes except for floats with boys dancing in speedos, and the drag queens of course. The small parade in my borough was pretty sedate too.

I haven't been to pride in ages so I was shocked to see the fetish gear around children... I don't remember children at all back in the 90's, not enough gay parents or straight people wanting to show up. I don't think it needs to be family friendly, even if it is a public event, though I'm not sure how that would work legally.

The problem now is that it is all about gender, a big club you join when you are some flavor of queer, meaning straight people can join in too. 3What was supposed to be a civil rights movement is now a gender and fetish parade/party with corporate backing. They aren't concerned with the civil rights aspect as they will exclude anyone not in agreement with queer/gender ideology. This is actively hurting us. Couple that with the kids attending and we don't look so great. For example there was video of the roof party with a toddler twerking. Also, I absolutely don't see a need for the thing called pride month... you can stagger events around the date of stonewall but calling it pride month where everyone from mass media to schools have to "celebrate" it whatever that means is overkill in my opinion.

The idea that conservatives don't get is that it was called pride because we were not going to hide in shame on that day like they wanted us to. To me it's pride in the not being ashamed sense. I think LGBTQ+ have to go back to this idea, instead of calling it a celebration.

Whenever I would go somewhere with him he was constantly going up to nice ladies and asking them if they like to fuck.

I asked him if he gets slapped a lot, and he said that he does get slapped a lot but that he he gets a lot of pussy.

Last I heard he got arrested on some petty charge and he died in jail.

Windows 7 and less has minimal bloat. The bloat that exists can easily be permanently turned off. The bloat in linux is almost impossible to handle. When I installed sparky min gui, it's memory footprint was almost double that of my cut down xp install. The tools to and knowledge needed to do the same things I did to win xp, to linux, is absolutely disgusting.

I like Pine64 and have bought several devices from them. Your comment about the PinebookPro is fair but jeez the design is several years old now and what's more it was never intended to be anything but a hobbist's laptop. I got one also expecting to be making it my daily driver but it just never jelled for me and the thing ended up sitting on my shelf mostly. Then at one point while I was trying the flash the keyboard ROM something went wrong and now it's a boat anchor. But I don't miss it at all, and I'd never buy another. I've amassed a small collection of laptops from various vendors that became too old to be usable under Window but they are mostly fine running Linux. When I needed a laptop for this reason or that I'd always grab one of those, never the PBP.

OTOH I got a lot of use out of the PineTab even though it's quirky as heck and it was a real love-hate thing. The new PineTab2 is very polished and I have high expectations, assuming they finish the OS.

Well I appreciate your thoughtful response at such an early (or very late) hour. So, you can be awake during the night even without coffee.

It's interesting that a doctor would tell you to quit coffee, but in your case you say it did not result in improved blood pressure. Did that doctor, or any of your doctors, know about the other things that resulted in withdrawals? I wonder if those other things could have contributed to high blood pressure. I know that excessive drinking of alcohol, which has been a problem in my family, was associated with high blood pressure.

You do mention a couple benefits of quitting coffee: You are no longer tethered to it, so you enjoy a freedom that a regular coffee drinker does not have, and your nervous system is more calm without it.

Knowing that caffeine had no effect on me, I was curious if I had built a tolerance to it so I wanted to see what would happen. That answer is: nothing. No withdrawal when I stopped and no jitters or even improved alertness when I returned to it.

I've done the same with sugar. That was difficult not because I couldn't ween myself off of it, but because it's in everything. Life without sugar did leave me feeling better, but I do love chocolate.

You are probably not alone in feeling that way from coffee, although I did not have that experience, but I think I have heard others say the same. I do have tea, and for awhile I had been drinking coffee in the morning, and drinking tea in the afternoon. Today I skipped the coffee, and had one serving of tea on ice in the afternoon. But I wonder if a person would be healthier with tea or without tea.

My grandfather stopped drinking coffee because it upset his stomach, but he could still drink tea.

Thanks for sharing. I can relate to what you said. I have had days where I felt like I was limiting myself by drinking only two cups of coffee in a day (like you are doing).

I don't like when I feel urged to drink more and penalized with withdrawal symptoms if I don't drink enough. When I have not had any coffee for the whole day, I have even felt lower back pain, like something in the kidneys is hurting. If I continued going without coffee for an extended time, the discomfort went away. But then the habitual coffee drinking later returned, and perhaps once I broke the habit, it would have been better if I never started it again.

I like anime. It's a way to tell interesting stories that CGI or live action (or a combination of the two) either wouldn't allow at all, or that no studio would take a chance on making without the guarantee of a hefty return.

But I don't really talk about my interest much. Because as soon as I do, I can see the exact moment that people connect "grown man watching cartoons" with "cartoons are for children" and get the inevitable "is he one of those weirdos" line of thought. And that's because of these fuckers, who mistakenly believe that the current social climate has validated their particular flavor of bullshit for public display.

Well, I mean that the people who espouse "anti-natalism" tend to be people who 1) have failed to reproduce; and 2) think they're superior to other people. This is anecdotal, of course. Maybe there are decent, thinking people who have become "anti-natalist" for honest, altruistic reasons, but I have never met one.

And maybe it's not entirely just my observation. I mean, people who have failed to reproduce would arguably be more likely to be anti-natalist.

From the link that was posted it says that the female was selling something and the guy bought it. He then messaged her the next day asking her if she was single. That's a terrible way to ask a girl out. It's not even "respectfully asking them out " It's also not a situation where one should ask a women out because the situation was about selling/buying. "are you single" is also a terrible way to try to get a girlfriend.

Women who go to the bar make terrible girlfriends. Bar women don't go to bars to hook up or get a boyfriend. They go to have fun and get attention from men and free drinks from simps.

Men don't know how to ask women out. That is where the biggest issue is. They think women are the same as men where if a man got that type of text message he would reply and meet her that night. Women are completely different then men in terms of dating and sex.

There is no natural extinction. Majority of men and women are dating/having kids. It's a small monitory of men and women that aren't. Dating apps are full of fat women, single moms, fake women. These are the ones complaining that no one is hitting on them but its a small minority.

Back in the day you could ask a girl out because men were much respectful. These days a lot of men in western countries are trash, obese, sex crazed, don't take care of themselves. So women have to be much more careful.

But that goes for women too. Women are trash in the west. Explains all the divorces. Trashy women and trashy men equals fast divorces.

Yeah, my PC has 16GB and it's contentedly purring along. The difference is quite noticeable when I browse YT with my 4GB ARM CPU Raspberry Pi. But the ARM platform is coming along. Just give it 2-3 years and it'll almost be on par with x86(maybe).

If freedom of online speech means anything, it means freedom to tell technologists and online platform moderators what they do not want to hear, with beehaw's allegation that phrenology is racist as a specific case of the "Double Standard of Tolerance" by ceck in FreeSpeech

Unfortunately freedom of speech only means the government can't stop you from saying things, it provides no such protections from private companies who can very much legally restrict your speech on their privately owned server

Now where this gets messy, is that the government was threatening to end section 230 protections if they didn't do censorship by-proxy - clearly against the spirit of the constitution, but a bit grayer area legally

Not how it works. Digestion, especially in the stomach, is not complete. And even then it would not be atoms, but amino acids.

But you can't break down tar and other toxic things that are created by fire. If that were possible then nothing would ever be toxic to humans.

Entire parasites are able to survive intact to infect humans through ingestion.

Not to mention a lot of that smoke is getting in your lungs.

How accurate are these 2023 IQ numbers for American ethnic groups? by 8thmonitor in AskSaidIt

[–]Phooey 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

On issue 2, you dismiss the known social factors, and insist genetics should be responsible, then on issue 3, you want to appeal solely to a social factor again. This is complex and multifactorial. Even something as small as fluoride exposure can statistically affect IQ. What is the average age of the mothers in these groups, does it differ? That matters too, older mothers have children with lower IQs. Furthermore, what are the traits of the people most likely to immigrate? If Indian, they are likely to be highly educated to be able to get Visas here, even though the average IQ in India is quite low. If south american, they are likely uneducated. You would need to control for a whole lot more variables to make the kind of statistical inferences you want. There could be many many reasons that could account for the data you are looking at

Higher IQ means higher income.

Thats not how statistics work, higher IQ implies higher income all other things being equal, i.e. it only means that when ALL the other contributing factors are exactly the same, and we have no idea if that is the case from the data you have listed

To develop the idea a bit further, Johnstone wrote:

This is a perfect illustration of what right wing "populism" looks like in the 2020s: phony, manipulative talking points geared toward convincing war-weary red staters who lost loved ones in Iraq and Afghanistan to keep supporting war and militarism, but anti-wokely.

She also headlined her screed as "Right-Wing Populism is Fake and Stupid." That is to say, she wants to imply that Left-Wing Populism can be okay, provided it is the sort of left-wing activity of which Caitlyn Johnstone approves.
