PS: apparently dev is a transphobe so probably steal it if you're interested lol. It doesn't come up in the game's text (at least I didn't notice it) and the dev's cursed views just makes it funnier that I read half of the characters as trans!

And as we and Stephanopoulos know, elections are problematic. Do you think all of the votes for Trump were appropriate votes?

Note that Trump also didn't get the popular vote in 2016. The Electoral College "stole" the election for him in 2016.

Yes, we need election reform, and have needed since the time of electronic voting machines. This is not what R. Paul was asked about.

What does "coming out" mean to you? Why did you "come out" and what were/are you expectations, goals, and fears in doing so? by yousaythosethings in LGBDropTheT

[–]Three_oneFour 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think coming out is more about making the decision to not hide the fact that you're not straight. Of course, there's the expectation that unless you are the physical embodiment of a rainbow you'd need to tell people in one way or another as you meet new people, but passively mentioning your partner for the first time in front of someone is different than saying to yourself, "I am no longer going to hide this, I am going to tell ____ about this"

I don't think everyone has a "coming out" moment because to "come out" indicates that you were in something, usually the closet. The only way for you to be in the closet is if you know your sexuality or know you are questioning it and choose to actively hide it. I used to say that since I am fairly straight passing, even though I wasn't hiding anything, I was still in the closet, just with the door open because someone would've had to actively ask questions about me and get the conversation relevant to my sexuality before I'd ever mention it.

I've made one person panic for a moment because they jested, "Shut up, you're gay" after I didn't like their phone UI and I responded, "Ya, so?"

To me, coming out requires a concious choice to stop hiding a fact about yourself and make it known to someone. If you aren't hiding it but people can't tell, that's not really different than if you don't wear a wedding ring and people can't tell if you're married or not at first glance. You aren't hiding it so much as just not showing it off.

And hopefully, coming out will stop being a thing for people. As a minority, we'll always live in a somewhat heteronormative society and so kids will still have some form of realization that they aren't straight, but it'll be more of a "I think I'm gay?" moment at dinner instead of a family meeting to admit something with some level of fear or anxiety

Harvest Moon is a classic! I loved that series growing up. Heard that the company branches into two now. The original developers who made Harvest Moon,Marvelous AQL, now call the game series Story of Seasons. Natsume, which was Marvelous' language localization company, stole took the name Harvest Moon once they broke up.

I like Rune Factory a bit more than Harvest moon now---It's a fantasy/medieval spin-off of the game. On RF4 you can change your game sprites to the opposite sex later on (I think you have to beat the game though..)to make it seem like a same same relationship, but idk if they still refer to your male character now changed to female sprite as a "he".

I've played a bit of Stardew Valley too, it's been awhile. I'll have to check it out again. What bogged me a down a bit was the graphic designs(even with mods) and I guess I don't have that 'one-cool-trick-that-doctors-hate' in Stardew Valley(yet). I know the ins and outs of HM and RF games to where I can get what I need easily. SV is a whole new and different beast(not a bad thing).

I typically romance female characters in games even on bisexual/straight romance games...maybe only once did I romance male character but still preferred women characters, they tend to have more interesting character designs.

Um so-called trans women are also “breeders.” And this has nothing to do with “cis privilege.” Caitlyn Jenner has had 6 kids with 3 different wives. There is plenty of talk on Reddit about these males freezing their sperm before beginning transition. One such individual is the transbian plaintiff in the Idaho track case who posts under the name u/LindsayLovesLingerie. Does this make Lindsay more privileged than “cis lesbians” who cannot have biological children with their partners? Does that make Lindsay a “breeder?”

Reminds me of the propaganda of transgender people being banned from sports. There is no ban. The law just required that they must compete with their sex and not cheat. They want to be privileged and prioritized while claiming vulnerable victim status.

Slouching Toward Post-Journalism

Led by the New York Times, a few prominent brand names moved to a model that sought to squeeze revenue from digital subscribers lured behind a paywall. This approach carried its own risks. The amount of information in the world was, for practical purposes, infinite. As supply vastly outstripped demand, the news now chased the reader, rather than the other way around. Today, nobody under 85 would look for news in a newspaper. Under such circumstances, what commodity could be offered for sale?

During the 2016 presidential campaign, the Times stumbled onto a possible answer. It entailed a wrenching pivot from a journalism of fact to a “post-journalism” of opinion—a term coined, in his book of that title, by media scholar Andrey Mir. Rather than news, the paper began to sell what was, in effect, a creed, an agenda, to a congregation of like-minded souls. Post-journalism “mixes open ideological intentions with a hidden business necessity required for the media to survive,” Mir observes. The new business model required a new style of reporting. Its language aimed to commodify polarization and threat: journalists had to “scare the audience to make it donate.” At stake was survival in the digital storm.

The experiment proved controversial. It sparked a melodrama over standards at the Times, featuring a conflict between radical young reporters and befuddled middle-aged editors. In a crucible of proclamations, disputes, and meetings, the requirements of the newspaper as an institution collided with the post-journalistic call for an explicit struggle against injustice.

The battleground was the treatment of race and racism in America. But the story began, as it seemingly must, with that inescapable character: Donald Trump.

The definition of homophobia? by reluctant_commenter in LGBDropTheT

[–]Three_oneFour 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think homophobia is discrimination based on same sex attraction. There are (at least theoretical) cases where someone would discriminate against homosexual and not bisexuals, but for the most part, homophobia is directed at all people with same sex attraction, regardless of whether that same sex attraction is exclusive or not. Bisexuals may be better suited to hide from homophobia like that by only acting on their attraction to the opposite sex, but avoiding discrimination by hiding facts isn't the same as not being the target of such discrimination.

To be honest, homophobes are too stupid to tell the difference. We're all just f@gs in their eyes, regardless of whether we're gay, bi, lesbian, or any other quality of who specifically we're attracted to and what kind of relationship we want. It may be argued that such people would simply be both homophobic and biphobic, but since the bigotry is based on the presence of same sex attraction, I think it should be all one thing: discrimination against (exclusive or non) same sex attracted people

I was 14. She was 16. I'd recorded the Canadian lesbian-themed movie "When Night Is Falling" (1995) on a VHS tape and watched it many times before imitating Petra and stalking Miranda (my first girlfriend's name). Petra stalked Camille in the movie, and that worked in her favor, so I did the same thing... with a little help from my cousin who knew Miranda and told her why I was following her home after school. I would stand across the street from Miranda's house in an empty parking lot of a baseball field, and one day she came out and stood on her porch staring back at me. I walked over to ask her out and she said yes. Our first date was at an amusement park with my family. My mom is bi and dated a girl when she was 17 before she started dating my dad when she was 19, so she had no issue with me dating a girl... she had an issue with Miranda being white. My mom had issues with homophobic/racist white women during the women's rights movement and didn't want me dating white girls, which I did anyway throughout high school (I had six white girlfriends in 4 years). Miranda said racist shit about my mom... at that time, my mom was a bit muscular, had a six-pack, and didn't shave... and Miranda said my mom looked like an ape. We broke up during my first month of high school in 1997 after a few months of dating. Her family moved after I did something disgusting (got the idea from the movie "Carrie"... Miranda looked similar to Sissy Spacek). What I learned from my first relationship is that I was too young to date (as my mom told me, but I was too miserable to wait any longer) and that teenagers should listen to their parents, especially if the parents have good advice based on personal experiences.

Ha! Whats the endgame to the "progression" We have to really start asking that very seriously. If I could guess just from the top of my head, it seems to somehow go back full cirkle? To once again scare women off of the worldstage and away from succes? Think about it..making us uncomfortable and feeling unsafe in the public space because our safe spaces are invaded by men once again. We must stand our ground and fight back dont let them push us back!!

There is plenty of evidence for election fraud, and the most important proof that the election was indeed stolen is the total unwillingness in all the affected swing-states to expose the ballots and the voting machines to a non-partisan audit.

Even if he did say he doesn't know what he's signing, this isn't some major gotcha moment. 1. There's a million possible circumstances for saying that which aren't nefarious or incompetent. 2. Literally everyone, left and right, already knows he has dementia and is a puppet for the DNC and various powers at be.

People mostly thought GWB was largely a puppet. Biden's like 100% puppet.

[–]TarshishJupiter[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

For me, there were multiple things that I learned.

  • There are people out there who are capable and willing to love me, even being the way I am. I am also capable of loving people romantically.
  • I do want to end up with someone and not be alone. I like being with someone, even if it didn’t end up working out with this specific woman.
  • I’m actually a very sexual person, and having no sex in a relationship or very little is not for me.
  • I want to get with someone who loves being a woman, even if she doesn’t love how society treats women. I can’t be someone’s dysphoria crutch.
  • I understand why people rave about French kissing now.
  • No one is my “soulmate” or “one and only”. There are many possible women I could match the with, but none are a perfect match.

The Germans also implemented the hunger plan and hoarded food for their troops, which led to famines in the occupied portions of the USSR. (Although these were not as bad as the famines in the unoccupied portions of the USSR)

This is all standard policies that waring armies have engaged in throughout history. Why don't we declare every siege and blockage throughout history a genocide?

I agree with your point about the drawbacks of linking a Wiki page & that I should instead link the source itself. Here is yet another updated version, just the first half again (without any sources this time though), Im hoping it clears up more on the subject of gender:

The different uses & meanings of gender & correcting common errors:

1a) Gender (synonym for sex): male/female

1b) Gender (construct): masculinity/femininity

2a) Gender identity: a social identity, not naturally occurring, but shaped by gendered upbringing in accordance with the norms associated with a child’s sex, not their preferred sex

2b) Cross-gender self-identification/felt-gender (almost exclusively incorrectly referred to as ‘gender identity’, & usually shortened to: ‘gender’): one of many, usually temporary phenomena collectively referred to as ‘childhood gender nonconformity’ that typically affects underage homosexuals.

• In the West this identity transition is considered proper medical treatment, indirectly pathologising homosexuality & making transgenderism into a method of conversion therapy

• Recently, the definition has stretched to include non-homosexual men with a paraphilia called autogynaephilia

3) Gender role (often shorted to ‘gender’): a traditionally masculine, or feminine social role, or performance

4) Woman (not a construct): an adult human female

5) Transgender men are adult human male transsexuals who present as feminine (names & pronouns, minimally) & most make their bodies appear female (e.g. tucking), but they share their sex, their gender identity & their privilege with men, which makes their preferred sex, felt gender & strong desire to appropriate women redundant:

a) Transgender men’s sex is unambiguous & binary, not on a spectrum, not assigned, not intersex, not female, but male. Therefore excluding them on these grounds does not indirectly exclude any women

b) Transgender men’s felt-gender is undetectable, indefinable & inconsequential:

• David Reimer was socialised a boy for the first 2 years of his life, then sexual abuse took its place under the guise of “re-socialisation”. So the major case purported to favour felt-gender theory, did the opposite. Conversely, the vast majority of infant males assigned female at birth & socialised accordingly did not desist

• Transsexuals prove that gender identity > felt-gender, otherwise they wouldn’t have to train themselves not to walk, talk, behave etc. in a gender-congruent way, nor would they have to put any effort in to emulating the gendered behaviours of their preferred sex

• Transsexuals’ gendered behavioural trends are consistent with their gender identity & inconsistent with their felt gender e.g. positions of power, media representation, crime rates, HIV distribution are male-dominated, while attempted suicide is female-dominated, regardless of trans or not

The definition of homophobia? by reluctant_commenter in LGBDropTheT

[–]PenseePansy 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

While there are cases when bisexual people are hated for being bisexual, which is more rare, and it is called biphobia.

I wouldn't say that biphobia is rarer; more that, because it tends to operate in a rather different way than homophobia, it's often less noticeable.

Biphobia is rooted in the notion that bisexuality doesn't really exist: that it's not actually a sexual orientation at all. Which causes bisexuals to be largely ignored/invisible (since, hey, we don't exist!), or-- when we do register-- treated dismissively (as defective straight/gay people, basically: phonies, weaklings, traitors, degenerates, etc.).

Homosexuality, by contrast, is generally perceived as a sexual orientation; unfortunately, in all too many people's eyes, it's a BAD one. So while LG people have the benefit of being seen as actually existing, this also means that they're targeted for discrimination and persecution in a way bisexuals typically are not, at least as bisexuals (in order to be targeted, you really must exist first).

Another way biphobia differs from homophobia is that it doesn't just come from heterosexuals; there's quite a bit of it among gay people, too. So (unlike the LG) we can't find refuge from it in LGB spaces.

The other main distinction is that (again, unlike gay people) we're often expected to be sexually-available to EVERYBODY. Cuz we aren't a sexual orientation, you know; we're just attracted to all and sundry, indifferent to people's sex, or mega-slutty. This also leads to the sense that, since we are attracted to the opposite sex, there's "no excuse" for us acting on our same-sex attraction; after all, we could refrain without having to be celibate, so why don't we? Or, in other words, while gay people "can't help it", bisexuals can... and so we SHOULD (at least according to those with a horror of homoeroticism).

Which isn't to say that we "have it worse" or anything. Just that biphobia has its own special ways of being shitty.

[–]Butterlogs 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Coming out was/is a shitshow for me. When I came out to my mom, I was having an anxiety attack (unrelated to coming out) and she kinda forced it out of me and made me feel like shit for being gay. Just like you, I don’t ‘look gay’ so everyone just assumes I’m straight and are surprised when I say I’m a lesbian. It really annoying to have to come out all the time. As for celebrities, I’m sort of jealous of them. God forbid I speak to a male friend, now I am suddenly straight or a liar. But unlike the average person, their coming out no matter how vague or low effort, automatically admits them to the rainbow social club. It is far more easy to remember that Sarah Paulson is a raging lesbo than Becky down the street. Additionally, I think that they use the lack of labels to not be pressed on an issue that may or may not be for attention, so they are free to do whatever they please (sexually and romantically) and have the ‘queer’ safety net.

Coming out to me meant giving a heads up to everyone that I was going to send them a wedding announcement one day - and the fiancée would be a woman. Didn’t want that to surprise anyone.

To me it doesn’t necessarily mean parading my sexuality on all my social media or being a full activist and marching in parades. And it also doesn’t mean I have to tell everyone I meet. My grandma doesn’t know because she would pray endlessly for me and I don’t want that for her.

For everyone else, it’s just a random fact that’s about the same as letting someone know whether I’d prefer to carry or adopt a child.

They've locked down the whole world. They get called fascist but they don't care. A lot of these things only effect good people who decide to care.

Society does often become morally stricter, it didn't just move one way. Look at MeToo, other than the actually criminal stuff most of that was acceptable behaviour 20 years ago, now it's not. Peadophile, again was seen as far less of a big deal than it is now. Hurting people's feelings is becoming close to being against the law in many countries.

I think mostly the movement we have seen is away from condemning things which are damaging for society and towards condemning things which are damaging for individuals. If you can make an argument there are victims being harmed then you can roll back almost any freedom. For instance the right for women to talk about their health and bodies is disappearing purely because a small group find it triggering and threaten suicide. Even when it's nonsense it works.

And I bet it is exacerbating the issue for dysphoric people in the long run to encourage them and everyone around them to obsessively focus on the thing that is causing them so much pain. It would be so much healthier to focus on things that make them feel fulfilled and whole instead of the things that don't.

The problem with "-isms" is that everyone defines them differently. One person's feminism is another's "anti-trans". By using broad terms such as these, a whole bunch of unrelated arguments get brought in where they are not helpful, and the water gets muddied.

I think that there is a good argument that it is unlawfully discriminatory. It would be unthinkable to make an employee prominently identify their race, national origin, religion, or disability status at work, and I would argue that the same applies to sex, which as others have noted can have a detrimental effect on female employees.

Secondly, if you live in a jurisdiction that protects discrimination on the basis of creed, you could argue that you are being forced to violate your creed by the requirement to choose an identity that you do not personally believe in.

Also, for anyone working in government (including public schools and hospitals) in the U.S., remember that government cannot infringe on your right to free speech. That protection includes freedom from compelled speech.
