Hiking the minimum wage lowers opportunities for poor by Tomoko in news

[–]AmericanMuskrat 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's more on whether you want a low wage economy where most people are in some kind of work or a high wage economy where around 10% of people are unemployed at any given time and the rest pay higher taxes to fund that.

It's already routine to run businesses on as small as a skeleton staff as possible in places that employ minimum workers. It's why calling in sick is so difficult in these jobs. You need a doctor's note and get a guilt trip since management now has to find someone to replace you, many just go into work sick.

There's something called a pay matrix. Employee wages are allocated to be the maximum of some % of income, or an income category. For example, some gas stations here use the profit from sales in their convenience stores for employee wages and the gas goes to profit. Since they cannot reduce the already bare bones work staff they'll have to adjust the numbers in the pay matrix.

GC: Hermaphrodites in other animals show that sex, male and female, is man-made and a social construct that doesn't exist in other species by Not_a_celebrity in GCdebatesQT

  1. Show me hermaphroditism in humans. In actuality, not some hypothetical gotcha attempt. If you can’t, this is irrelevant. There’s all kinds of things that exist in some species but not others... it’s one of the reasons we have the term species... and the differences are part of how we classify them...

  2. Unless all or like 99% of trans people are actually hermaphrodites I don’t think this is a great argument. Trans people are still born with a clear sex. Hermaphroditism, if it existed in humans, would be something that wasn’t a choice or a sense of identity, it wouldn’t be a series of surgeries and or artificial hormones, it’s how they developed, naturally. They’d be born that way.

  3. I’m just not sure what point you think you’re making here

Thoughts on religion? by WeastGang in debatealtright

[–]SerpensInferna [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've come to think religion is not only endemic to the human condition, but necessary for our health and the cohesiveness of civilization. White people are desperately in need of Religion.

The question then becomes, but what religion?

Christianity is our heritage. However, Christianity is problematic in that it espouses a world-rejecting, self-flagellating, often hopeless set of beliefs. It is joyless. Christians offer dirges to a god dying slowly on a torture device. Christianity also almost completely removes the Feminine Divine from its mythos - leaving us only with the pallid, timid, ever suffering Mary. No bountiful mother goddess offering nourishment to her children from her fertile soil, no savage queen of the battlefield gathering the fallen into her arms, no wisdom goddess presiding over the arts, medicine, and commerce. A strong people needs strong women raising children, and strong women need archetypes just as much as men do.

Christianity fails in its universality. It was originally used as a tool to unite the masses, true, but it ultimately crumbles under the weight of its own success.

We now have the scientific paradigm to explain why the sun rises and how gravity works. Christianity was codified and became dogmatic, leaving it with very little flexibility against the new knowledge humankind has gained in our recent past.

Neo-paganism is something people are turning to as an alternative, and I think it has some merit. I've been exploring pre-Christian pagan religions for many years, and while I believe they are invaluable to study, I keep running into the same problems.

One, these are all beliefs with specific cultural contexts for civilizations that have long since died. There is some relevance to modern life, but I drive a car and sit in an office all day, I'm not tilling the fields or fighting off horse raiders (although with the way things are going that might change soon enough). Any lineage to the modern world was utterly destroyed by Christianity. We can look to Hinduism as an example of how things might have developed, but ultimately that ship has long since sailed.

Two, so many pre-Christian religions were extremely localized, to the point where you could have a tribe of 100 people with one god, and a mile away have a different tribe with a whole separate pantheon. This is especially true of Western Europe, who had neither the population nor the literacy to support religion like the Romans did.

Three, we are now White. Forget about long-ago Germanic or Gaulish tribes, if you're American you're likely a mishmash combination of any number of Western and Eastern European nations. White is now our identity. Which of the ancient pagan religions can provide for that over-arching label?

Four, with the exception of Greco-Roman religion, we know so so little about the actual beliefs and practices of ancient paganisms. The majority of it is guesswork and romanticism. How strong of a foundation is that for a new religious movement?

I do wonder if something like Proto-Indo-European paganism would be something to focus on, as it pulls together many of the disparate, scattered threads of European paganism. But again, most of it is theory and we have even less concrete information about it than we do even little known European neo-paganisms.

Asatru seems to be having some success, and I think organizations like the Asatru Folk Assembly are worth looking into - one of the most useful and age-old aspects of religion is something for people to organize around, after all. And what we need is something to organize around, with religion being as good a tool as any. The AFA is well-organized and focuses their energy on creating community and temples, while all I see from the 'universalist' Asatru orgs are people falling over each other to prove how anti-racist and LGBTQ accepting they are.

We can't focus on things like Esoteric Hitlerism or Neo-Nazism, the reality is those things are far too demonized and I don't see them gaining any sort of meaningful following. They will remain on the fringes and the people who wave those flags will be outcast. I also don't consider Atheism a viable option, an absence of faith easily leads to hopelessness and nihilism, things we can ill afford.

I don't know what the answer is here, just some things I've been contemplating for awhile.

You just feel that their prejudice is justified due to the statistics of the situation.

Statistics? How many sexist/racist/homophobic encounters does an individual have to personally endure before they’re allowed to want their own spaces, where they can feel safe amongst people who have common lived experiences? You realize (hopefully) that poc, women, and the lgb all experience encounters, treatment, language, abuse, ridicule etc that you chalk up to statistics on a regular basis? That it’s not “statistics” it’s reality. We don’t want our own safe spaces because of history- we want it because of present day issues. For example: you telling us that wanting space for ourselves free from people who are more privileged than us who treat us like shit makes us prejudiced. We want those spaces to get the fuck away from people like you.

It’s not prejudiced to want to have safe spaces. And it’s not prejudiced for oppressed people to want spaces free of their oppressors, be it females wanting spaces free of males or poc wanting spaces free of white people. Females wanting to have male free spaces is not just about fear. It’s about comfort, it’s about equality. It’s about not allowing males to dictate even womanhood. Females have a right to not want to change around males. To not want to compete for female specific opportunities against males. It is ridiculous to say that females are prejudiced for wanting female rights and spaces to remain for them. Was it prejudiced for suffragettes to march and protest to begin with? Because if you don’t think suffragettes were wrong, how is it now wrong for the new generations of females to want to maintain what our mothers and grandmothers and aunts etc fought for? (And lesbians have every right to want lesbian spaces to be for lesbians. Not males. Males can’t be lesbians. Because they are biologically male.)

And poc can want poc spaces because they have the commonality of not being white in a white dominated society. That’s not prejudice. It’s literally wanting a safe space for themselves. It’s disgusting as fuck for you to say that poc wanting to have their own spaces is rooted in prejudice. How out of touch must you be to say that?! I’m fairly confident that you are a young white male who understands nothing about how the world works outside of your bubble. If not, you’re just lost as fuck (and frankly if you’re not white your ignorance is disgraceful) and I hope time opens you eyes.

Unpopular Opinion:The Jewish banking power is unsubstantiated by Nasser in debatealtright

[–]RichtoffLud [score hidden]  (0 children)

Jews are not usually the "Key people" of Banks, that would appear too explicit for them. This also applies in politics, we will never see a Jewish president in the USA, but we all know that being president in the U.S. is figurative, because the agents behind are always Jews, such as Jared Kushner during Trump's term, all Trump's children are married to Jews, as well as Biden's too, for example.

In a quick search on this post, we were able to find some Jewish influences, for example, Jes Staley's wife is jewish and Thomas K. Montag, a Jew, Chief Operating Officer of Bank Of America.. Here you are free to search one by one, there are 3 parts on this blog: https://zogwatch.blogspot.com/p/who-controls-wall-street-part-1.html

In few words, some banks do not have Jews as key people, but these banks are "enslaved", they do the interest policy to support and finance (((Foundations and Institutions))) around the world. Or even usurp and blackmail banks to get funds, like for example: "French bank faces €1 billion lawsuit over antisemitism, smear campaign" https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/jacob-agam-sues-french-bank-over-antisemitism-smear-campaign-583303

Or: "A Jewish charitable trust has sued Deutsche Bank in the U.S., alleging that it wrongly withheld as much as $3 billion from the heirs to the wealthy Wertheim family.." https://www.spglobal.com/marketintelligence/en/news-insights/trending/w__ugeuzbu3mydgg75ilvg2

And to finish, Jews do not necessarily need banks, they get funds whenever and wherever they want. https://apnews.com/article/virus-outbreak-international-news-western-europe-germany-europe-fe70a989c90101e79ff8ee4d9abcf7b0

I'm not sure what you want to hear? If you believe that Scandinavia has no sexism and gender roles then you're not blackpilled because BP is about recognizing that these things are biological and universal. The passive aggressiveness comes from not being able to openly be sexist, so men are frustrated about it and resent feminism (big MRA culture online), and women complain all the time about how men here aren't "real men", this is also why scandi women like foreigners like those from Middle-East who are more "masculine" (read: dominant and sexist) and scandi men get a lot of wives from Thailand and Russia. It's obvious that people here pretend to be very progressive but in practice women still do most housework, we have less women in STEM than less progressive countries, men are all porn addicts etc. But if you don't believe it, just move here and marry a scandi man, then you wont have to ever deal with sexism.

Depends. You can trust most TV News programs when they tell you what the temperature was outside. You can't trust a weight loss product, unless it is drink water instead of soda. When I distrust something political, it isn't because someone else political told me they were wrong. Example: The infowars world is anti-vax. Older family members of mine were in terror over their kids contracting polio. Then the polio vaccine came out. Now, polio is almost eradicated. I know the polio vaccine had problems, but polio really was worse. When you collect good data on vaccines, the math shows nearly definite efficacy. Liar politicians will eventually contradict reality several times and you know to abandon their leadership. But our best critical thinking doesn't always get it right. That doesn't mean we should join the Jehovah's Witnesses.

We were in high school. She made fun of me for loving The Twilight Saga and I liked to make her laugh. Eventually it evolved in to us messaging each other over FB IM at night to writing each other love letters at school during the day. Eventually it turned in to a sleep over at my house where we got to know each other without the distraction of our friends. We spent the whole fall getting to know each other. By Christmas break she invited me over to her house and we got snowed in and from then on we had sleep overs at her house every weekend. We would hang out in bed all day and talk and laugh, make out, make love, play with her brothers, listened to music, watch movies. She was a really nice girl and her family was really nice too.

From her I learned what true emotional intimacy and physical intimacy are.

From her mom and stepdad I learned what I’d like my married life to hopefully look like if that makes sense.

[–]xandit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Can't even define it right: "For example, a person labeled “female” at birth who comes to identify as a girl, then a woman, and behaves in ways expected for girls and women, can be considered cisgender. This, in contrast to the term “transgender,” which describes those whose gender identity and presentation differ from that expected for the sex they were labeled at birth."

Cis is labeled as behavior, which would imply a tomboy is acting trans. Then he switches to presentation to describe trans. Seems as if he doesn't want to deal with cis people who are gender non conforming, because that ruins the narrative.

The definition of homophobia? by reluctant_commenter in LGBDropTheT

[–]OPPRESSED_REPTILIAN 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

"Homophobia" - irrational fear or extreme hatred of homosexuality.

Anything else, including but not limited to:

  • Not supporting gay marriage (for any reason)

  • Refusing to cater to homosexuals in a private business or service (regardless of whether you think it's mean, I believe private businesses should be able to say no to whatever they want, if they're not comfortable with making gay wedding cakes or whatever, I don't think forcing them or punishing them is right)

  • Voicing distaste or disagreement with "pride" or "sex positivity"

  • Refusing to personally identify with, or support, the LGB(T+) "community", whether those reasons are personal or political

  • Not donating to homosexual or wider LGBT charities (most of them, if not all of them, are scams anyway)

  • Refusing to participate or offer one's services/business at a Pride or LGBT event

  • A homosexual not his/her their own sexuality.

  • A homosexual wanting to change his/her sexuality.

  • A homosexual choosing not to date the same sex

  • A homosexual experimenting with the opposite sex, for whatever reason that may be

  • A bisexual woman calling herself a "lesbian" or a bisexual man calling himself "gay"

  • Simply identifying as transgender (Cringy? Yes. Idiotic? Yes. Homophobic? No.)

  • Voicing distaste or disagreement with "gay culture" or homosexual stereotypes

  • Turning homosexual men/women down (Yes. I've been called "homophobic" for refusing to sleep with men who are interested in me.)

Is not "homophobia".

The word "homophobia" gets so misused, so that's why some people like me say things like "I don't believe in homophobia" because 9 times out of 10 the word is used to describe something that is NOT hatred or fear, but is literally just personal disagreement or something that a person doesn't like.

It's like if I were to call married gay men "homophobic" because I hate the idea of marriage and being "owned" by a man. Unless someone is literally hateful towards homosexuals without any logical reason (I don't believe that, say, people who have been abused by the same sex who may recoil from homosexuality count as "Homophobes" the same way that women who "hate" men due to abuse are not "misandrists") or is literally afraid of them they are not "homophobic." Having the wrong opinion that you personally don't like is not "Homophobia" and a homosexual not acting the way you, or the mainstream LGBT wants to act, is not "internalized homophobia."

For the record I don't think "internalized homophobia" is real, I think it's just a silencing tactic used against homosexual people who go against the status quo, and disagree with trans/queer or what is considered the popular opinion.

Absolutely. In the early 20th century there were US publishers specializing in a daily stream of disinformation, prompting the need for the FCC Mayflower Decision in 1941 and the FCC fairness doctrine in 1949. The latter sadly expired during the Reagan Administration, and now there is a substantial portion of the US population who genuinely believe the "opinions" of extreme right wing lies. Some of these people are on Saidit. I am here to see where there can be any potential middle ground with these people, and in many cases it's impossible to find that common ground. I also want to understand their points of view. Sometimes this is exhausting. (Perhaps the reason for so few people at this website.)

It means very little to me & I refuse to participate.

My sexuality is a personal matter, and a painful one at that. It's not a shocking plot twist in a TV drama. I don't exist to entertain and "shock" others, and I owe no one an explanation unless I plan to get romantically or sexually involved with them - and I'm choosing not to do that.

I intend to keep this secret to the grave, with the exception of my close friends and MAYBE a doctor/therapist if I could find one who could help me. But that's only because of venting reasons. I take absolutely no pleasure in telling anyone that I'm gay & I always fear that even people I trust might tell others, or make fun of me.

I try to avoid the topic of sexuality, especially in real life. But if I'm asked directly if I'm gay, or I'm assumed to be gay by someone making a disrespectful "joke" or asking me about a "boyfriend" (because I am androgynous which apparently means I "look gay") I will outright deny it and say I'm not into guys.

"Coming out" is a stupid rite of passage for the privileged to get attention, mostly on the internet and/or reality TV. If you're suffering or struggling with your sexuality there are zero benefits to telling anyone.

Also I don't know why it has been given a stupid name and hyped up as "coming out of the closet" when straight people don't "come out." It's ridiculous and makes me feel like even more of a freak.

You know, I was watching a documentary the other day about Chinese sweatshops, and there's a part where the filmmaker asks the foreman, "Why are there so many women working here? " and the foreman replied without missing a beat, "Because women cause less trouble."

It's the same reason so many women were hired during the industrial revolution and why we still get paid less today: because we cause less trouble, because we don't complain, because we don't ask for more pay. Higher trait agreeableness has been observed among women across multiple cultures and societies, and sometimes it works to our benefit, other times it works to our detriment. In the workforce and in the face of manipulative, exploitative people, it's usually the latter.

Also, what exactly is so misandrist about pointing out that men, on average, are more confident than women? I have met men who are able to speak ill-informed opinions with such confidence that they have me doubt myself on subjects I am 99% certain of. That's something to be proud of.
