As a new user you are automatically subscribed to every sub. Head on over to your preferences and there should be an option to unsub from everything so you can build up your wanted subs from 0. You can also view your subs and just manually unsub from what you don't care about that way.

As for making new subs, accounts must wait 2 weeks before they can do so, and then 1 week between each new sub they make.

The two extremes being reddit (leftist, censorship) and voat (extremist right). Raddle is like reddit too. There is no silver bullet, but we are going to try our best.

Even if you don't want it to become overrun by one side, couldn't it potentially do so if a large number of users from that side dominate SaidIt, and end up defining the website's standing?

It's possible, but the ones that don't follow the pyramid of debate would be removed. And it turns out a lot of hyper-extremist people aren't usually all that good at arguing their points. This works in our favor.

I think more people should post videos on their own website, then share them on others. I am thinking of making a multimedia series myself, that wouldn't fit on other sites due to using a combination of text, images, video, and audio, fully embracing the web as a medium.

I've never seen a country do a faster 180 than NZ did in response to this incident.

I much preferred the reaction to the Norway mass shooter. Norway didn't change anything. And specifically said they wouldn't, because doing so would mean the shooter would have what he wants.

That's what standing up for liberty and the common man looks like, imo.

I'm going to miss the gaming subreddits I frequented but I'm honestly getting sick of Reddit's bullshit these past few years. Anything remotely offensive, insensitive, or opposing opinions are immediately removed. It's crazy! Glad to see our same community flourishing here.

Eh, I still think he was a lone actor just based on how fast media tried to backpedal when they realized they screwed up. Well 'lone actor' in terms of not working with a major group or government - he was WAY too accurate and calm during that video so he had to have had training

I DO think governments are capitalizing on this to try another shot at neutering the internet, however, and the reactions of government after the fact are planned and calculated

Internet censorship that some people complain about nowadays comes off more as reverse psychology more than anything else.

There's a strong urge that emerges among a lot of people to share that New Zealand shooting video, because they were told they were not allowed.

promotes or encourages criminal acts or acts of terrorism

This was what I took from the video's censorship, and also why I didn't understand the controversy behind it. Why is it such a big issue that people aren't allowed to see/distribute the video? Is it that attitude where being told what you can't do pushes you to rebel?

I'm suggesting that in pure capitalism, companies would fill the roles that government mostly fills today. We already have private courts (called arbitrators), private security (mall cops, bouncers, security guards, etc), private package delivery (FedEx, UPS, DHL), private health care, private schools. The difference between a private company and the government is that private companies aren't allowed to use force to get what they want, they have to follow the same rules as people do -- no stealing, no attacking people. If a company comes to you and says, "give me 30% of your income or my thugs will kidnap you" you can tell them to pound sand, and you can defend yourself against their thugs.

I assume that this means your intention was to avoid anything like Voat or Raddle (the lesser-known, very left Reddit alternative).

But is it ever possible to remain neutral? People aligning with the alt-right often use their "facts not feelings" motto, and usually hide the heavy hatred behind "logical" paragraphs (I'm sure we've all seen the same PewResearch paragraph parroted hundreds of times), and in the times I've seen it occur they're almost always posting/commenting with an agenda, not to discuss.

Even if you don't want it to become overrun by one side, couldn't it potentially do so if a large number of users from that side dominate SaidIt, and end up defining the website's standing?
