Cassandra Team Christmas Update

 

TL;DR:

1) We have a new VPS (virtual private server) in the cloud (along with our secondary old server still running the other platforms), 2) are starting Projex.Wiki (read the Q&A below), 3) with full downloads/backups (akin to decentralization), and plan to soon introduce 4) a decentralized PeerTube instance, Volun.Tube, 5) a decentralized Lemmy instance, 6) and much more, 7) while switching to a more open and transparent management process here on SaidIt 8) to develop and share these communication tools, alternatives, and solutions for our resistance communities and beyond.

 

It's been a while since our last update.

I'd meant to do an update in late-summer on our successes and failures up to that point but was busy with local protest projects while procrastinating pending developments, opportunities, and ideas on various aspects with varying results accumulating evermore minor details well into the fall. (ie. d3rr testing versions of Lemmy, Docker, proxies, etc.) Additionally, I was getting deeper into my local Windsor resistance communities to learn about our pros and cons - and how they might overlap with global resistance and tech communities. In short, little things were always churning away, in fits and starts, but there wasn't much solid to make any minor or grand announcements.

However, as of this week, we're happy to say that we've now got a professional cloud VPS (virtual private server) in addition to our self-built indie-server. The VPS cloud server can handle all the traffic and/or expansion we'll ever need while we back up all of our platforms to our indie-server(s) and offer full download and/or decentralization capabilities.

Our indie-server, Cassandra, is still running with /u/LarrySwinger2's RabbitHole.WF phpBB forum, two other wikis, and will now be our first backup.

On the cloud VPS we'll set up Projex.Wiki, a wiki for projects of any kind. Together, /u/d3rr (admin of SaidIt.net), /u/Robin (admin of WikiSpooks.com and UnwelcomeGuests.net), and I will initially co-admin Projex but we intend to openly develop protocols and management systems by 100% consensus, including expanding admins and control to a trusted team with an ultimate goal of mostly self-regulating social management. More on this later.

 

Q: What is Projex.Wiki content?

A: Blogs, DIY tutorials, essays, galleries, lists, manifestos, production development, project management, resistance organizing (local, regional, national, global), resources (job boards, maskless restaurants/services/stores, non-vax health, homeschool pods, etc), reviews, and/or whatever you think is a good project for you personally, for groups, or for our world.

 

Of course we're welcome to even create specialized encyclopedias, though better general ones exist at WikiSpooks, InfoGalactic, Wikipedia, or countless others. MediaWiki with Semantics is so much more powerful than to be limited to only encyclopedias use.

Projex.Wiki will not be for video as soon after Volun.Tube will be exclusively for video hosting. Projex.Wiki must show promise before we move on to the other platforms on my roadmap (a long wish-list), such as that decentralized YouTube-like PeerTube instance or a decentralized Reddit-like Lemmy instance.

Please consider developing and working on your own or group content to organize and share on Projex. We won't fully open it up right away, but you can draft up your material knowing it will soon have a home once we fine tune things. We'll first be focused on laying some foundations to organize the date and our interactions, then we'll invite and select some folks to use it and gradually expand wider, and eventually we may even make a grand announcement.

Contact us if you'd like to be early participants as wiki-content-creators or management developers - or simply watch /s/Cassy and /s/Projex and SaidIt chat for progress and chime in as you like. Now that the Cassandra Team Core has hashed out a strong course of action and the fundamental foundations have been laid, we'll now be discussing developments and the entire management process in the wide open as these things actually spring forth, not only for transparency, but also to attract participation, help, support, and to foster interests and content as well as determine what directions and how the community wants to grow.

For anyone unclear and to put your minds at ease, we are not competing with, much less giving up on, SaidIt. We're simply expanding, growing, and evolving our SaidIt communities' options and backups. A goal is for our communities and technology to bridge between these platforms and more. For example, we'll be using the /s/Projex sub as our main forum to discuss all the goals, development, management, ideas, and everything related to Projex.Wiki.

The developments of SaidIt can be evolved and applied, more openly, and in different ways, with all other platforms. We aren't just improving SaidIt and our community but we're improving platform management, and can share these with the world. Similarly, none of us are professional resistance organizers but we're learning, developing tools, networking, etc. while evolving to be better at it - and can share all of it with the world.

Importantly, this is also about much more than just SaidIt.net and Projex.Wiki. This is about openly evolving, developing, improving, and sharing the application of better alternatives and solutions, including social media management, as well as freedom resistance organizing. Some of this manifests in principles such as /s/AlternativeEconomics, /s/AlternativeMedia, /s/DecentralizeAllThings, /s/FLOSS (free/libré open-source software), FOTPACH (fair, open, transparent, peaceful, accountable, consistent, honest), LibreFestos, and new DIY templates, protocols, and standards, among other things. We'll develop these projects to be flexible to include existing systems and to make it easier for everyone in the world from users and participants to organizers and admins, from movements to platforms, and beyond.

Things seem to be speeding up. In the new year we can better organize unfettered, uncensored, and as communities, groups, or individuals - locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.

Though it's not our intention, we know much of this may be as confusing or overwhelming (or abstract or lacking concrete examples or repetitive) as it was/is for us, but rather, our ultimate goal hers is to show that in these nebulous dark times we have a huge stash of hopium to share.
